this may be a stupid question but i was just wondering if my apps backed up on titanium will be ok to restore onto the s3? i know i probably shouldn't restore any data, just the apps. and if i have my data(wifi, contacts, etc) backed up with google will it just restore over onto the s3 with no issues? also, ive been reading around and rooting the s3 seems a bit more complicated and theres some issue about a flash counter also.

Just data should be okay, and rooting is just using ODIN with a pre-rooted firmware. The wifi and such could be backed up to your google account and contacts should be in your Google account if you have them backed up properly with google sync.

Read the stickies for advice on how to root, flash, blah, blah, blah.

Also, when I came to the S3, I restored apps and data from my previous TiBu backups just fine. Obviously no /system apps. One thing that I would suggest it to pull your Titanium folder off your previous phone card (you're gonna do this anyways when you transfer to your new phone) and put it on your PC. Open it up full screen and clean out some of those backups from previous builds or phones. Gonna have a new phone, might as well have it clean.
