i hope it is but i dont see why samsung couldnt just go against vzw will and make an app to unlock the bootloader for free instead of just making a developer pay an extra $400 for just an unlocked bootloader

Verizon always find a way to fxxx with their customers one way or another, not even surprised Samsung is doing that.
Honestly I think Samsung's pretty much done with Verizon telling them what to do. Plus, Verizon wouldn't make that kind of profit without Samsung. Verizon should be the one who should be listening to Samsung.
Well that's my 2 cents.

I highly doubt the unlocked one will help unlock the regular ones. it's possible they could take some stuff from it but the bootloader has to be signed to boot, it isn't like you could just flash the bootloader from the unlocked one and expect it to do anything.

Yeah Its starting to sound like a hardware check too. I bet Adam will crack it if it is hardware though.

Nice comparison Steve, I haven't used an SIII yet but from all I've read, your observations seem correct. I was all excited about the SIII coming to Verizon, but of course my upgrade date had to be at the end of this month which would preclude me from being able to upgrade and keep unlimited data. Then I found out the US variants don't have the excellent wolfson 1181 DAC, then I found out about Verizon's locked bootloader and was happy that I didn't jump on the SIII and extend my contract. Fortunately, you can find LTE gnexs for only a bit more than what you'd pay for the SIII on contract. Got one off the classifieds here and am enjoying some sweet buttery JB! GB>ICS was huge, but with project butter and Google now, ICS>JB has made for an awesome upgrade.

Really looking forward to seeing your work on the toro side!

The audio quality is superb on the gs3...absolutely makes the fascinate sound like am radio...folks are making way to big of deal about the locked bootloader...the device just released TODAY. wait till its in the hands of folks like Adam Outleter. Sammy is pissed at verizon, so Im sure we will get some unlocked bootloader love one way or another. Also the GS3 runs awsome STOCK...never though I would of said that. Yea aosp would be nice, but this device was done right out of the box. Glad your happy with the gnex, but if/when the bootloader is unlocked on the S3,, you will regret your decision! I almost pulled the trigger on the gnex, but Im glad I went with the S3. They are both great devices either way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:highfive:

So is it correct to say the us cellular version has an unlocked bootloader? I think I can sneak away the cash for it on this paycheck. With the us cellular version are there custom rims or kernels for it yet? I have been doing a little digging but I haven't seen much news.

Lol I won't regret getting a Gnexus, there's only so much a phone is supposed to do and both of them seem to have it all covered. :p On a side note, I saved a lot of money so I was able to deck my phone out with accessories, which makes me very satisfied. Also Google Now is really really awesome, the predictive cards are making my day more efficient which is sweet!

p.s. I'm jelly of your audio quality. -_-

yes we get an unlocked bootloader and can root and stuff. I haven't seen any roms or anything, once I get into it I might try and port some sprint stuff.

Good to know for sure. I hadn't really seen much going on for it. Have you seen any us cellular forum talk or will it just be a version talk merge. I just want to make sure when I get mine (eventually) that I am reading the right forum, as there seems to be a thread for every single country version. It got a little mind numbing, and then I had to get back to work.

I have seen no mention of the us cellular version on XDA. haven't looked at RootzWiki yet. for uscc specific stuff check out team us cellular (Google it, can't post links to competing forums on XDA) which is somewhat small but pretty active.

So it is not just me. I did check out their site but most of the sections were still empty. I will just have to wait I guess.

I was due for an upgrade on my account and to be honest, I was just getting sick of the Fascinate and some of its irritating quirks.. Yes, flashing custom ROMs like Superclean, MIUI, AOKP, etc did make the overall phone experience much better, there is only so many tricks you can teach an old dog.. Decided that the GS3 would be the phone I would upgrade to and while I'm very disappointed about the locked bootloader, I already have it rooted and running TWRP..

So far the phone screams on stock, not even zipaligned or deodexed, and GPS is quick to lock.. Radio seems to display a weaker signal but I get faster overall data speeds than the Fascinate..

I'm giving faith that we will be able to circumvent the bootloader soon and Jelly Bean won't be too far off from there..
