What happens if I update from this ROM? My phone will be automatically locked again?

It should work fine to update from this ROM to another But if you go back to the standard Windows Phone 7.8 ROM I think Nokia will pull you back to DLOAD...

I think this method will eliminate the ATF/CYCLONE/MXBOX/HTI boxes for developer unlocking and flashing Nokia Lumia 800! And you don´t need to install the mobileex or advance turbo flasher unlocker, or to open the phone to get inside it.

Good guide, my phone only showed up as NAND Disc Drive or something, I skipped the detect part and just flashed it without detecting it, works fine 'till now.

This method will probably not work on Lumia 900 (https://chimeratool.com/supportedmodels), so you will have to use an ATF box for Lumia 900

WP8 ROM for Lumia 800

Sir,

Any developer trying to cooking new wp8 rom for lumia 800. Actually I am really annoying that good games are not available for 7.8. They are only available for wp8 only and too many apps are only for wp8.

Any developer please cook wp8 for lumia. Because Microsoft will not try to update lumia 800 for wp8.

Yeah, it is possible to flash custom roms on Nokia Lumia 800 with dload. Unfortunately nobody have developed a custom wp8 rom for the Lumia 800

What are some good apps/roms for lumia 800? Rainbowmod 2.2 isn't really that good, not many new features..

So, if i backup my phone, change bootloader, install rainbowmod, restore, would i get my sms back?

WP7EasyBackup does exactley the same that Zune 4.7 did. It takes backup of sms, games, etc. It saves the backup in the same folder as Zune 4.8 ( %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\ ). It seems that the backup won´t work when you install a rom or does a hard reset on your Lumia.

But you can try other solutions like:
WPBackup v1.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010135)
Backup Tool by hx4700 Killer (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011)

As i understand, WPBackup requies full unlock and Backup Tool does the same thing that zune does.

Does anybody have a successfull backup/restore when switching to the custom roms?

"Custom ROM" is a rom based on an opprativesystem, like Windows Phone 7.8. The developer behind the Custom ROM doesn't have the same procedures and red tape that the manufacturer has. So, a Custom ROM can often introduce new features, like Rootmanager etc.
