unfortunately i have a DLOAD Lumia 800 and encountered the same problem of "unknown lumia" detected by chimera.
now it strikes me merely to fetch a second-hand lumia with rainbowmod installed.
does any one have it, willingly for sale, please contact me.
heres my email: [email protected]
many thanks!!!!!

ive been always fascinated with this phone, how beautiful is the zune ui when playing music, with mpatool used to add the picture of artists respectively as background. in the past i had my phone developer-unlocked, but having recoveried, the registration lost. desperately i found Microsoft now turned off the server for new unlocking. so if your phone isnt running rainbowmod but developer-unlocked, it's perfectly ok as well.

its the story between lumia 800 and i. i sincerely hope you would do me a favor. thank you again!

Happy new year everybody!
After years and years of searching, I managed to find the digitally signed .cert file for flashing the Qualcomm bootloader to all DLOAD RM-801 Lumia 800s (doesn't work with the RM-819 Lumias, unfortunately). I packed it up as a .esco file, together with the Qualcomm bootloader, and it works! To unlock your phone, just do the following:

1. Get all the drivers and NSS Pro (see first post)
2. Open NSS as administrator (otherwise you can't flash a custom OS)
3. Extract and copy the attached .esco file to /loaders/special/wp7 that is created after opening NSS for the first time
4. Connect your phone and make sure it's detected
5. Click on Flashing -> WP7 Tools -> Install
6. Do NOT format your phone's memory if a window pops up, it would destroy its system and the phone would never turn on again. Just click on "Cancel" or close the window
7. Enjoy!

In case of driver problems, try installing Zune and Nokia Care Suite:
https://archive.org/details/zune-package_202207
http://www.mediafire.com/?d53a76x4b59p75l

To flash RainbowMod and fully unlock your phone so you can install apps (warning: it will erase all user data on your Lumia), download it, extract the .nb file, and flash it using NSS (see first post).
https://mega.co.nz/#F!s9YX2KTT!VtsWY3NbGaN0-xqeQwQgdA

To deploy .xap files, install the Windows Phone SDK and use its XAP deployer ("Application Deployment"). You can extract the .iso (using WinRAR or something) and just launch the installer by opening WCU/WindowsPhone/WPSDK_[language].exe. Zune (download link above) must be installed, connected to the phone, and running during application deployment; otherwise, you will get error 0x89731811 (or similar).
https://archive.org/details/WindowsPhoneSDK71_iso

Now getting apps is a nightmare to say the least. Even if you find a .xap that should be compatible with WP7, if it was extracted from a WP8 device, it won't work. You can install it, but when you launch it, it says something along the lines of "(app name) license is invalid. Please purchase the app." This has nothing to do with licencing (it's just MS trying to scare you), and everything to do with how WP8 works: When you download a WP7 app, it gets (irreversibly) converted into a native WP8 app before installation, making it work on WP8 but not on WP7 anymore. This "conversion" generates a "MDILFileList.xml" file inside the .xap file, so if you see this inside a .xap (opening it with WinRAR for instance), forget it, it won't ever work on a WP7 device. Deleting the file will of course do nothing, since it's a symptom, not the cause :)

There is a site (in Russian) which archived tons of apps for WP7, but most of their links are broken, sadly:
https://wp-seven.ru/tag/wp7-apps
(especially the Nokia Bluetooth share thing is very useful)

You may wanna paste the URL from above into this translator tool:
http://itools.com/tool/google-translate-web-page-translator

That's the best I could find. Sadly, WP7 app preservation is in a terrible state, and if it wasn't for a few fine folks, we would have literally nothing.

Either way, good luck and have fun!

Nokia Lumia 800 - First Complete Tutorial for Installing Custom ROM on Lumia 800 with DLOAD or Qualcomm
    Windows 7/8

Thanks to Lordmaxey, MarcHoover and Dengel!
Also big thanks to the Chimeratool developers :)

Authors are not responsible for any damage to your device!
Everything you do is on your own risk!

Following this tutorial is your own risk. During the process, your phone will lose all data (game data, apps, photos, music etc.). Make sure to a thorough backup before you start (for example using Zune for music and videos).

Remember to download my folder (NokiaLumia800) from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1zoh2kzv6kzki53/NokiaLumia800.zip, and extract it! :)
See bottom for FAQ. Will try to update frequently if there happens to be some common errors!

    Backup Lumia
    Backup Contacts:
    1. Add a windows live id (Settings/Email/AddAnAccount/WindowsLive)
    Backup Game Achievements:
    1. Open Xbox-Live. Settings/Sync all items
Backup of all data (apps, messages) except Zune content (music, video):
    1. Install .NET 3.5, Zune 4.8.2345.0 and Windows Phone Support Tools
    a. You will find Windows Phone Support Tools in the folder (64bit and 32 bit)
    2. Extract Wp7EasyBackup, and run application
    3. Click on backup, and backup… (Don’t worry if your Nokia gets an image of a charging cable between pc and mobile)
    13353291063_96675c5452_o.jpg

    4. When finished your Nokia will turn on and you get an error massage (don’t worry)

Make sure to save it, if you want your old stuff on the phone

Warning. The Backup Process could lead to a failure on custom Roms! (Zune updates need to be supported by your custom rom)
RainbowMod 2.2 for Lumia 800 is not supported

When you have installed the Custom Rom:
    1. Open WP7 Easy Backup Tool
    13353524564_2e257b7548_n.jpg

    7. Then it is just to sync your music and videos

How to backup SMS before installing a new Custom ROM?

    Enjoy! :D

    It WORKS!!

Tested and confermed working! I'm now rocking rainbow mod 2.2 on my lumia 800!

Also amin_deadly It showed that nand thing for me as well but it didn't impact the installation. You just need to select stuff from the drop down menus manually instead.

    Hello
Your achievement is really amazing! Congratulations!
I backed up most of files needed, linked, mentioned related to Lumia 800 to Internet Archive. They're so valuable.
I hope they will stay safe.
