I've been on this ROM for the day. Some things I've learned and differences in implementations vs stock LP, if anyone's curious:
- Without touching anything, it runs nice and smoothly most of the time, which unfortunately can't be said for CM and its derivatives. I haven't compared to see if this is just down to their governor settings or what, but whatever they've done, they seem to just about hit the mark as far keeping the UI running smoothly under normal loads.
- The twist and chop gesture vibrations are now unpleasant. Especially the camera gesture; in LP it had a nice, smooth "purr" as it brought the camera up (and in fact this can still be felt if you twist to switch between front/back cameras). Now it's just a nasty 1-second full-on vibration. Lazy, Motorola.
- Speaking of laziness, not only does the built-in equalizer no longer affect ringtones and notifications, it doesn't seem to affect much of anything. It's also only accessible from Play Music or a shortcut app whose name escapes me at the moment. Very lazy, Motorola.
- Moto Display is functionally identical. So that's nice. Sure would be cool if they'd make the sources available so we could have it in CM.
- It didn't occur to me because I'm technically "on" Verizon, but MVNOs still don't have VoLTE (despite prepaid VoLTE being announced as a "soon" thing a few months back). Which is unfortunate for my Tracfone-fueled Turbo :v
Superficially, there's a decided lack of effort towards keeping the experience exactly the same as LP, but...eh. I guess the differences can be lived with. At least Moto Display remains the same, and overall the ROM
does run well, so points for optimization.
The camera is only 12mp...
Megapixel count isn't everything, newer cameras tend to have better image processing and/or support for RAW, OIS, larger apertures, etc.
I decided on a Turbo because it was closer in size to my Droid 4; while I was shopping I also persuaded my mother to upgrade, and she instead chose a G4 Plus. While the Turbo is 21mp and by that metric "better", the G4+'s 16mp camera does just as well as far as I've seen, and
has a larger aperture so it takes better low-light shots. Edit: checking the specs, it actually has a smaller aperture, and
still pulls in a bit more light. Go figure.
Sorry for veering off-topic a bit.
