As far as Gorilla Glass is concerned - the only real way to be sure is to give it to a Gorilla to play with for a while. Unfortunately most Gorillas might have a problem with the keyboard in portrait mode because the keys are so small. So as not to piss them off - you should quickly show them how to use it in landscape.

Can a mod pleeeeeeeeease just change the name of the thread already?

We already came to the conclusion it's not confirmed, and the DHD does use Gorilla Glass

Did we? the glass manufacturer says yes, but HTC says no...

I would tend to believe HTC.

All the same, I'm yet to see anyone dropping the DHD on purpose to definitively clarify this for us all, nor giving it to a large hairy primate :D

In my opinion the DHD must have some kind of rock solid glass.
I've dropped my phone over my shoulder because I was wearing gloves and it sliped out of my hand and hit the street with cobblestones. I had one big scratch on the upper right corner but the display looks like new. Now I'd bought a new cover (60€) because I could not see the scratch one more day.

My girlfriend puts her DHD between all the creepy things in her handbag (only god an my girlfriend knows whats really in this bag) and no scratches on the display, only the cover has some really small ones.

And her aunt dropped her own phone two times because the dog start to to pounce her on the car park and the phone hit the floor and the second time is something happend at work. Now the cover has some sharp edges, maybe I should replace it in the near future...

Yes we are real HTC fans :D

And when my Dad get my DHD and I don't have to repair it three times in 6 months (like his HD2 (display, keypad and then the cover) when the Sensation is out, then it is proved that this phone must have some kind of bullet-proof glass :D Because my dad gets every phone broken, its only a matter of time... (He is a truck driver and something is falling down sometime in his truck :p)

so you prefere believe support people, who most often don't even know the product they sell ...
support are people that are often with a low income
in some company they hire people who succeeded their exams, but who failed to find a good job ...

you just used the contact form, so the guy wo answer you was a first level support => the lowest support ...

a real technicien, who know what he speak of, is most even at the second or third level

The people who answer phone or mails, are people wo failed finding a real job ...
or even people who don't have any knowledge.. they only answer what they see on their desk paper...

the desk paper did not mention it, so the answer was no ...

they could have hire people without a diplome that would result the same ...

in the other hand, you have the gorilla company who publish the list of product that use their screen ...
dude they do the production of their screens and they sell them to the brands ... if someone knows if the desire HD has a gorilla screeen for sure, that must be the company wo make the screens and sold them to htc ......

AND yes, most companies just buy pieces and assemble them in one product...
htc is not producing the cpu/gpu or screen ..

Well, the only way to end this controversy :) is to try to smash the glass. Indeed, HTC support is not entirely trustworthy, but equally I would not trust the marketing department of a multinational.

It is possible that it was specced and not produced. A bit like the (S)LCD discussion which goes on and on. Maybe a batch was produced, maybe it wasn't.

But I would expect HTC to be able to make at least a passing reference to it in their publicity, if it were the case. This component would be a significant cost for them, so they wouldn't just use it without saying anything. Have you seen how they sell the Motorola Defy? Anything similar for the DHD?

Then, how about this video?

This guy tested his DHD with a sharpener.
But there's no scratch at all at the end of the video.

OMG... that needed some big...... eeerm, guts.
Finally after view this video, I'm taking off my anti-glare screen protector.
Then trying to scratch my screen with pen, ruler, cutter. None of them leave marks on my screen.:D

I also ask @Corning (Official Gorilla Glass Twitter Account), and here the answer is:

@adidot @HTC @xdadevelopers Yes, the HTC Desire HD does use @Corning's Gorilla® Glass. See all HTC devices here: http://bit.ly/igFHpp

My friend, you have balls :)

Still can't understand why HTC would not market the Gorilla Glass IF it is? As paul c pointed out, it would have been at a lot of cost to them.

I Take my DHD with me when i go Mountain Biking, and it has no issues, has been through worse scrapes than me and the bike put together. personally the phone is touch as i would expect from a smart phone - only evident damage on mine is pain coming off where the ring around the lens sticks out so much!
