Still scratches though...

Gorilla Glass or no Gorilla Glass, the DHD still scratches. I took mine out of its case and there was one grain of sand or dirt that came off the bottom of the case and made it onto the screen, without me knowing about it.

As I cleaned the screen with a microfibre cloth, the grain of sand or dirt swirled around on the screen under the cloth and created a deep scratch, 1cm long.

Gutted :-(

all those youtube videos of people using penknives and metal stuff to scratch the screen are all just more of the same boring fluff... you might think they are really brave to do it.. but they are not because the fact is metal does nothing to the screen at all..

now the brave ones are the ones who use rocks, sand and grit to rub on the screen.. that kinda video is way more interesting... pity hardly anyone makes them...though i did see a video by zagg who makes invisibleshield and they threw a gorilla glass phone across the road and it did have long scratches.. so please don't think your gorilla glass phone is invincible, it might be against metal but just a few grains of sand or grit in your pocket is enough to cause permanent damage to your screen

These guys test the Galaxy S until the screen breaks. As you can see if you watch the video, it takes a drop of 1.6 metres before the screen breaks, down on asphalt.

I suspect that the phones light weight has something to do with it. I have dropped mine myself without it breaking.

I have been looking around and it seems several places claim that HTC does not use gorilla glass. Whatever it is using seems rather strong, but it might not survive a 90cm fall on asphalt directly on the screen. But as others say, not something I would test.

I have one scratch in my Galaxy S. It is about one cm long, but not that deep. So it is only noticable when standing in sunlight. I also have it in pockets with metal objects and other stuff while running. I have been trying to have it face away from metal objects though after getting that scratch. But a phone protector would just make an already big phone, much too big for me.

I've dropped my DHD twice now both times from about 4ft, first time onto slate tile, landed on the top right corner and it got a pretty significant dent and took the paint off after it had finished bouncing. second time was onto concrete with lots of tiny stones around, again bounced a few times and got a couple of tiny dents in the back, The screen is still in perfect condition, Not a single scratch anywhere and when its in my pocket it's usually in there with keys/lighter/loose change.

All phone screens scratch, it's glass ffs, theres nothing you can do about it besides get a decent (or not so decent) screen protector.

Also follow a few rules.

1.) Do not put your phone in your pocket with anything else which could scratch the screen.

2.) Get a protective case so if you do drop it then the screen should have a little bit of ground clearance due to the case being a little bulky.

3.) Don't act like an idiot with your phone, so no flipping the phone in your hand or chucking it about like a tithead.

4.) If you are a person who gets drunk all the time then not only are you probably going to eventually lose your phone but you are probably going to get a tonne of scratches too, so take out a nokia ****brick with you instead of your glossy desire HD.

I could probably think of more but i think common sense plays a big part in all this, treat your phone like the £500 piece of metal that it is, scratches do not go away, they will remind you of how much of a douche bag you've been by dropping it, scratching it, putting it in your pocket with keys....etc.

So just be careful :)

I have had my DHD for about 3 months now. Dropped it 3 times. Mostly on wooden floor and once on the street. All of the drops were not intended of course. Im just a bit clumpsy now and then. Always keep the phone away from keys, changes and other stuff that make scratches in the pocket.

The only marks are on the aluminium case. Not even noticable at first glance, but you see them when inspecting the phone. The glass is just as fine as when I bought the DHD.

In other words I am rather satisified to find the DHD a fine, robust quality build to be honest.

-My old Tatto was already scratched more after 3 months. But that is the most plastic-ish android phone HTC ever made....

Is a mod ever going to change the name of the thread? because it isn't confirmed that the DHD is not using Gorilla Glass.

Also i've had mine since December and haven't got any scratches on it, even when i've had it in my pockets with keys and change.

yep i agree, ive had mine since november and dont have a single scratch (touch wood), but then again i keep mine in a noreve case for normal use and a tunebelt armband when at themeparks.

It also appears IT DOES have gorilla glass according to cornings website (the manufactor of the product)

the harder the product the easier it breaks when it falls :)

so if you have a cheap watch with plastic (casio cheap model)
or an expensive breitling with saphire glass.

drop them both who lives the longest
i know for sure the casio will !

the sapphire is so hard it wont scrats but i defenetly break !
so a good combination of those to is the best and if gorrilla glass is the way... dont think so.

ever seen an apple that has been fallen
