It will work however, you may have to modify build.prop telephony value to get it to default to LTE/CDMA

If it doesn't touch modem it shouldn't affect that though right?

making a backup of my current stock vzw firmware and will be the test dummy lol, but since it doesn't touch modem or bootloader and is just a backup from twrp it should work, or worst case i have to use my backup, just would have to flash my backup.

Thank you! You are the man! I did it last time with 5.0.2 and everything was working and you can go back to 4.4.4 anytime you want.
when I can use all moto x firmwares without touch modem and boot loader in my xt1052 you can use them too. I'm using every 5.0/5.1 otas without touch my boot loader because I modify them to upgrade only system and boot. Not more..
The backup is only system and boot. so you will able downgrade to everything. Just backup your original firmware to be sure.

You'll be fine. I used 5.0.2 leak on my xt1060 for a little while. When/if you revert back to 4.4.4, it'll ask you to revert sensor firmware.
Just the nexus player got it tho´. And they are just some minor security, call sounds fixes soooo no problem here]
BTW 5.1 pretty solid for the moto x. Lag´s gone and many bugs are fixed( Im going to continue testing this week).
Are you sure that there is no need of bootloader update? How this backup was possible to make, not installing OTA?
