Confused about my evo!

Ok, so after some time of me being scared that i bricked my evo because it would keep booting to the htc fastloader screen. I finally got it to turn on by pressing yes to the update. But i feel this is not the correct firmware or rom, im not to exactly sure. Here is what it says under software information:
Firmware version
2.1-update1
Baseband version
1.39.00.04.26
and the rest of the information i dont think is all that important but i am looking for the most recent version and i dont think this is it.

But then when i go to system updates and check for a new update it says my phone is up to date and there is no updates available for my phone.

What can i do to get the newest firmware which i believe is 3.70.651.1, but i dont want to have to go through the scare of thinking my phone bricked again.

If you're rooted (with s-off) you could flash a 3.70 rom and the newer radio and pri and stuff like that. If you're not rooted, you could just run the 3.70 RUU, which is in the Evo wiki somewhere. I can't link you cause I'm mobile right now, but you should be able to find it with a quick google search

If you are not rooted, here's 3.70 RUU or PC36IMG file (which ever is easier for you to use).

If you are rooted, I would probably suggest getting the Sprint Lovers All-In-One Stock ROM which will also update your radio and such.

I dont know if im rooted and im a noob when it comes to this stuff, so RUU and Radio stuff i dont understand sorry. But in noob terms, what exactly should i do?

Since you are sooo noob you should be reading alot more b4 attempting to mess with your phone. Pay someone $20 on Craigslist to root it and flash it for you and be done with until you get up to speed. Or you risk killing your phone. Just my suggestion.

Thats the worst suggestion ive ever heard. And i did read up, it just didnt work. Things happen. I followed the steps it just never went through.
