I've been using contactless payments with my phone here (US) and abroad since I got it. No problems. Then, on 27 Sep it worked one time then didn't work at the next merchant, and hasn't worked since. (I had received Pie update about three weeks prior.)
Google Pay support says according to transaction logs, the phone failed "attestation" (security or compatibility check) and said that the most likely reasons are: (a) rooted phone (it's not rooted); (b) unlocked bootloader or custom ROM (not true); or (c) "The device manufacturer didn't submit the device software to Google for certification" (unlikely, since it had been working).
When trying to pay, the phone vibrates when the NFC connection is made, then an error screen is shown, saying "Your phone can't make contactless payments as it doesn't meet software standards."
Any thoughts? I've reported to HTC and am waiting for a callback.
