Themes / Apps / Mods CoverScreen OS - more than a cover launcher, use cover screen as a fully functional mini phone! (includes Native Lockscreen!)

Search This thread
Well SamSprung disables Samsung Health and it's dead after A12 so ...

It doesn't actually disable it. It runs in place of it as a widget. That's how you avoid the accessibility services and running in the background over top the existing launcher. They're two completely different things that provide similar functionality with different costs.

I really like this launcher, but I can't keep it on consistently as I use cover screen swipe-up payment almost every time I pay for things. I kind of doubt it will be integratable as samsung keeps their payment stuff (rightly) on a short leash, I had issues with it allowing payments to go through on main display just with a custom lower resolution set, but it would be nice. I also had the launcher freeze on the pulldown menu that has the flashlight and bluetooth toggles, where they would always show with the phone closed and "off" until a restart, on another occasion had my cover screen stop working entirely, again fixed by a restart. i'm currently on oneui beta 2 still

overall i'm very impressed you were able to make this work on oneui 12, I'm excited to watch the improvements over time and i'm very curious as to the nature of this workaround

Excellent app. This brings in as much functionality as one may want out of the, fairly capable, external display on this device.

Might I suggest adding the ability to manually chose what apps to show on the drawer? Not all of the apps on my phone would be useful to open in the cover screen and would be great to disable / hide here.

So far, no complaints. Buggy as expected, lags sometimes, also as expected. Great work!

Been running this for the last week or so, now on v2.0

Nice simple UI for setup - similar to Energy Bar :)

I upgraded from Android 11 to 12/OneUI4 last weekend I think it was, and on a totally standard unrooted Flip3, everything has continued to work OK through the upgrade.

After pressing on the fingerprint reader, tapping the cover screen (in principle going to display the app drawer) leaves a black screen - though I occasionally do get to the app drawer, post upgrade to Android 12. Not a massive issue for me atm, since we need some ability to zoom in.

Not sure if it's intended behaviour, but I like the ability - after having opened the cover screen, and it has timed out to the AOD clock - to double tap on the AOD, and CoverscreenOS appears where I last was

Feature idea! I added one of my widgets so that it's there on the first right-swipe - but the content is so tiny that it's unreadable. It fills up the left of the screen, top to bottom, but only uses the first 20% of the screen (looking left to right.

So, would be really great to do something like stretch widget to fit horizontally or vertically (so eg a square widget would fit horizontally and would show its top half on the cover screen) - or even the ability to stretch and crop the widget so that just the preferred area is represented on the screen.

Feature idea#2! would be really good to choose the "tap cover screen gesture", to open an app directly instead of going to recents or the app drawer

Can I get a link to any versions before the 2.1 beta? I just did a clean update (uninstalled then updated to 2.1) and now no matter what I do or how I do it, the app crashes after granting accessibility permissions. I really would like to get this app back as I use it constantly at work to be able to quickly do little tasks without having to constantly flip it open.

Hi!

I had the same problem. So, I force stopped the app, cleared both caches and uninstalled. Then re-downloaded and it worked.

GM installed Alpha 1.0 this morning, but before that cleared cache and data and uninstalled to do a clean install.
When I TAP on coverscreeen once, now it shows a little menu on the right but not the APP Drawer like it did before this update
Not sure if its a bug or I did something wrong
Love the app and keep up the great work and thank you!

BTW I am on One UI 4.0 too
Thanks

Me too. Uninstall and reinstall then restarted.
Is everything locked now unless you pay?

Update: another uninstall, restart, install, configure, and it showed acrobat in the app drawer one time, then it's blank again except for all the locked options. Also noticed that one ui was still working and pulling down a volume toggle which got stuck and then coverscreen got stuck with one ui under a transparent cover screen ui pulldown.

DOWNLOAD:

After thousands of unfolding/unfolding, happy to announce that, a super experimental early access version of CoverScreen OS is now available for open testing on Google Play store (you may have to clear Play Store's storage/cache if you see 'pre-registration' page instead of 'open testing'.)

Spent countless hours and months working on this project, almost broke two Z Flips in the process. And now, your precious feedback and support shall determine the future course of development, which may include but not limited to:

  • Allowing samsung's implementation work along with CoverScreen OS
  • More quick toggles (Wifi, GPS... you tell me!)
  • Dismiss notifications (either only on cover screen or both the screens)
  • Pick up WhatsApp and other VoIP calls directly from cover screen
  • App drawer with 'recents', 'favorites' and more sections
  • Support for dedicated Apps (think of call, contacts...) and widgets optimized for cover screen
DOWNLOAD NOW!

NOTE: On Android 12, you may not be able to use Apps on cover screen (working on a fix!)

INSTALLATION & CONFIGURATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Setup Bixby (required to fingerprint unlock to launch Apps on cover screen.)

  2. Set side key to launch Bixby on Long press: Settings > Advanced features > Side key > Under 'Press and hold' select 'Wake Bixby'.

  3. Launch App - select your Google Account.

  4. Follow the onscreen dialog to grant 'Appear on top' permission.

  5. Hit the switch at top right corner of the App > Installed services > CoverScreen OS > On > [Notifications access settings page will be opened] > Turn on CoverScreen OS.

  6. You can now fold your phone to checkout CoverScreen OS in action.

OS NAVIGATION SYSTEM:

I am yet to work on proper screenshots/demos to guide you guys, but here is some tips to using CoverScreen OS:

OS screen arrangement:

  • Swipe Right: Opens Notifications screen.
  • Swipe Left: Shows widgets you have added in the CoverScreen OS Settings App.
  • Swipe Down: Quick Toggles.
  • Swipe Up: Shows media play back controls (only if there is something active!)
  • Tap on Home: Opens App drawer.

Notifications screen:

  • Clicking on Notifications reveals more details.
  • To go back to notificaitons list, swipe down

App drawer:

  • To exit to home from App drawer, swipe right.

App screen:

App screen refers to any App launched from CoverScreen OS's App drawer.
  • Navigating back: Swipe left from extreme right of your cover screen.
  • Going back to App drawer: Swipe up from extreme bottom of your cover screen.
  • Going home: Go to App drawer > swipe right.
  • Text input: Click on any text input area to open Voice Keyboard. On some Apps, you may have to click twice > once to focus on input field > second to open Voice Keyboard.

Hi!
Thanks for your hard work, I wanna try this app, looks smooth and beautiful, but I can't download It from the store. It says the link is unavailable or the app couldn't be found on the store (maybe because I'm italian? I don't know). There is some other way to download and try It?

The open test release works very well for me. Interacttion is limited as Bixby does not properly implement voice commands in South African English. I'd really would love to be able to set up a a set of "replies" of my own choosing to reply to messages on the various platforms. Location and route planning works in Google maps. I did note that the standard widgets where no longer available after I created and added a lighting warning widget in the launcher. And we did not have any lighting yesterday 😁😁so I can't report on the ability of the warning widget. Excellent work so far. Much appreciated!

Ability to change voice keyboard language, will look into it! :)

Hi!

Got this beauty installed and loving it so far, great work man!

As for bug reports, noticed if a app is opened on the cover screen and then tried to open on main screen, it will not open. Need to kill the app (clear recentes) and then it will open on main screen again.

It's fixed in the latest version!

As soon as installed and set up, my phone keeps locking itself after like 2 seconds again and again.
Reboot doesn't fix it, only way is to uninstall the app.
Anyone else have this Bug?

Fixed in the latest version!

Hi!

Thanks for the update! And can confirm, working on A12.

Went into device settings on coverscreen and could not swipe to close it, had to turn off screen. That's the only bug found now, so going good! 👍

Requests:
Quick toggles: wifi, GPS, nfc, Dolby atmos, sound, airplane mode or all toggles that are on main screen, but you can choose what toggles you want and what not to show.
Apps: choose what apps to show on coverscreen and what not.
Icons: adjust size of quick toggle and app icon size (now they are huge).
Widgets: use 3party widget and also original samsung cover screen widgets
Screen rotation: turning the phone rotates the screen. Option on/off in main app settings.

You wanted Requests you got some 😁

Thanks for your work!

Thanks! :)

What's the trick to swiping from the extreme right or extreme bottom as the FAQ says?
No matter what, I can't get it to work. Any swipe just affects the app that is open.

Are you on latest version of the App? Do you have any case on for your phone? The trigger region for back/home is very thin, may be remove any case you have and try swiping once.

Latest version, no case or skin.
The best I can get it to do is quit CoverScreen OS and go back to Samsungs coverscreen on extreme rigt side swipe.

EDIT: OK, bottom swipe seems to work now, but right swipe just quits.

Regarding back gesture, which App in particular you were using? Try Chrome > open a page or two > back gesture should open previous page on Chrome, with enough back gestures it should eventually take you to App drawer.

Yeah Ok, this works. But the final swipe out of the app does not go to app drawer. It goes to default coverscreen (not CoverScreen OS).

Download now from Google Play Store! (Please leave a review on Google Play Store if you find CSOS meaningful for your Z Flip 3/4!)

Hi guys! Developer of Energy Ring & Access Dots here. Excited to present a mini OS for the cover screen of Z Flip 3/4 through an App - CoverScreen OS! It shall make your phone's cover screen a fully functional mini phone!

    1644533940825.png

CoverScreen OS almost simulates a secondary OS on your Z Flip's cover screen with the following features:

    • Cover Launcher / App Launcher/Drawer
    • Caller ID Screen for VoIP Apps (WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE and more...)
    • Support for all third party Apps homescreen widgets
    • Quick Toggles - a TON load of them!
    • Navigation gestures
    • Notifications
    • Powerful Media screen - multiple sessions, scrub through the track and additional controls that are not available in Samsung's Stock OS for cover screen
    • Voice, QWERTY, T9 full keyboard support
    • On screen LED Notification indicator/Edge Lighting
    • Flex Mode

The navigation system is built such that, you can access both CoverScreen OS and Samsung's Stock OS (checkout the tutorial within the App.)

    Flexing the 'Flex mode' ;)

Also, you can now 'click' on 'most' widgets to perform action on CSOS itself.

    New Notification options in action!

Edge Lighting for multiple Apps in action!

    COVER LAUNCHER / APP LAUNCHER/DRAWER:

    • Launch almost any App on your cover screen with back navigation support and voice keyboard input.
    • Launch apps in locked orientation - portrait or landscape.
    • Quick search apps by alphabet.
    • Sort apps alphabetically - ascending/decending.
    • Sort apps by recently used first.

    WIDGETS SCREEN:

    • Add almost any widget pixel-perfect aligned for Z Flip 3/4's cover screen, of any App that you would normally add to your homescreen on the main display.
    • Add as many widgets as you want.
    • Widgets can be set into one of the two sizes.
    • Perform almost all actions on the widgets like clicking on a button to launching its App.

    QUICK TOGGLES SCREEN:

    NATIVE/IN-BUILT TOGGLES:
    • Bluetooth turn on/off
    • Flashlight
    • DND mode
    • Flex Mode - use cover screen while phone is unfolded
    • Caffeinate - keep screen awake
    • Power Dialog on cover screen
TON LOAD OF ADDITIONAL TOGGLES: You can add super powerful quick toggles powered by Bixby Routines, Tasker, IFTTT and many more available providers, check out within the App! Some examples here, only limited by your imagination
    • Wifi, NFC, GPS, Wifi Hotspot, Power Saving mode toggle, Read aloud notification, screen brightness control
    • Quick dial a contact, SMS, play music, reminders, alarm, battery level.
    • Only limited by your imagination!

    NOTIFICATIONS SCREEN:

    • Reply to any notification with voice keyboard.
    • Open notification instantly either on cover screen or on main screen.
    • Perform additional actions available on each notification.
    • Dismiss notifications with swipe right.

    MEDIA PLAYBACK SCREEN:

    • Access all media playbacks from all Apps, as available on your main screen.
    • Theme support.

    EDGE LIGHTING/ON-SCREEN LED NOTIFICATION INDICATOR:

    • Turns on cover screen and glows the edges of your cover screen just like the Edge Lighting on your main screen.
    • You can set a single solid color for all incoming notification or let CSOS apply the App's Icon color.
    • If you have multiple notifications from multiple Apps, they can combine into a beautiful gradient.
    • More colors, customizations under development.

    FLEX MODE:

    • Use cover screen with access to all CSOS features while the phone is unfolded.
    • Keep the phone on your desk or bed in tent-style stand mode.
    • Cover screen stays on until you manually disable Flex Mode or fold back your phone.

    DEVELOPMENT STATUS:

The OS requires some heavy sustained development effort to deliver a feature complete version. The OS has come a long way and it’s mostly stable now as reported by majority of the users.

    THE ORIGIN STORY:

Been working on this project since the original Z Flip, but unfortunately had to suspend development due to cracked screen (that countless folding/unfolding while testing.)

    1641023353249.jpeg

The release of Z Flip 3 with a bigger cover screen was enough incentive for me to be excited about the project once again but unfortunately I again hit a bottleneck as the screen started bleeding this streak of green light right at the center and sometimes whole of second half.

    1641023428051.jpeg

Fearing a cracked screen once again, I had suspended the development yet again… but… that cute little cover screen… here we are. :)

Watch out for new version: early_access_1.9! (Will be available anytime now on Play Store, will notify all once again when it's up, am off to bed now!)

    • Apps launched on cover screen can be 'resumed' on main screen through 'recents' (it used to freeze earlier.)
    • Fixed glitch of screen reunlocking when 'LED' notification is on.
    • Tapping on persistent notification now opens the correct settings page to turn it off.
    • More options to contribute towards the rapid development of the project.
    Notes:

    • The App is yet to be made stable, it should be ready for day to day use in next few versions, please bear with the bugs, they shall be gently squashed! :)
    • Upcoming versions will work along with Samsung's native implementation, allowing access to standard widgets and Samsung Pay!
    • Feel free to flood in feature requests, ideas for the cover screen.
    • Allowing the two notifications appear is the most reliable way for you to know which service is running and which has shutdown unexpectedly - requiring you to manually re-enable them.

    • Notification titled 'CoverScreen OS boot status' corresponds to the Accessibility Service. - re-enable the service if you don't see the notification.
    • Notification titled 'CoverSCreen OS activity status' corresponds to the Notification Access given to CoverScreen OS in your system settings - re-enable the service if you don't see the notification.

Edit: It's now available on Play Store, if you don't see the update, clear the Play Store's storage/cache! Also make sure you're doing a clean install.
