Can I buy the actual glass piece and replace it? I'm not too scared to tear into my phone...

Gotta buy glass and digitizer. They're glued together on gnex. But yes you can do it yourself.

Its gonna cost you between $200-250 to get the screen.www.ifixit.com have a step by step guide on how to take the phone apart.
That's how I replaced my screen.
