Here are the repair photos that Motorola took. I figured out you can find them if you login to their support site and go to your cases.

I emailed their consumer advocacy group, and faxed a letter. I'll probably snail mail one too, but I have a feeling that I'm gonna get screwed here.

We'll see.

i have a no name tablet i bought for $150 on amazon... dual core 1.8ghz...

it was the most awesome thing until last night... it was working fine, i set my tablet on my nightstand and we were falling asleep and i her a pop... we live in apartments, so we thought it was the neighbors... the screen flashed for some reason... and flipped my wife out.. then we seen it and realized then what had happened...

i never dropped mine, i treated it with the utmost respect... sucks hard... technically you can say i watched it crack.. because i witnesed all events... i think its a rare defect, but.. something like 1 in 5,000 or less?

BELIEVE IT, COLDNESS CAN DAMADGE SCREENS!!!!!

me too!

I've had my tablet for a few years now and recently set it on a box low to the ground. A huge crack just appeared one day going diagonally across the entire length of the screen.

Oddly enough, in the past, I've dropped my tablet SEVERAL times and been lucky enough not to damage the screen or the tablet itself in any other way...and this is without a case. Several months since the last time i dropped it, it appears this temperature differential caused the worst damage.

Funny thing is...I had been noticing how the battery life was significantly improved lately. Normally the tablet would last 1-2 days while doing nothing...but I was going on 4 days without requiring a charge and thought the tablet felt cold to the touch..perhaps the colder temperature was helping the battery life. Too bad it came at the cost of the screen :(

In any case, OP and others are not crazy. I think this was caused by temperature but it does seem to be rare.

believe it

Same here with an Acer A1-810 which are known to have crack issues easily. Loved the thing, right up till it cracked. Had a case for it before I even got it at the door. Was at my daughters, used it right before I left, closed it up, set it on the dash (another daughter was driving) for the short trip home, came home and set it up, and noticed it was acting strangely with things popping up that weren't pressed and looked close and one corner had a crack all the way across it. Never dropped or abused. Hard to justify paying $60 plus for a new screen, when I only paid $100 for the tablet, and then installing it too AND it might happen again with the reputation for breaking they have or it would be a no brainier. Someone should file an action on Acer for these screens. I see lots (10s per sale) of them sell on ebay with nothing but screen damage. :(

I once left my Xoom in the car over night during winter and the outside temp was -33C (-27F) and in the morning was still working, no cracks or anything. Took it in and had a lot of condensation. No problems what so ever. I've also dropped it dozens of times (with moto oem case) and it still looks like new :D
