Thank you for replying.

But I had already unlocked the bootloader on 4.2, does it mean I will never be able to update it thru OTA to 4.3?

I feel not good but still thanks a billion.
OTA is out of the question since you unlocked. But you can still flash the 4.3 firmware zip in CWM to get to the correct bootloader.
You will have to flash CWM again after the update and then you're good to go and flash CROMi-X.

Well, you mean that the 4.3 firmware zip is totally flashable for CWM? Are you sure that it isn't only for the stock recovery?
I've downloaded the SDUpdate zip file for WW version, can I just flash it ignoring that my device is actually CN version? Or should I just still download the update zip for CN version?(I need Gapps but the CN firmware doesn't include)

Thank you much.

If you have cwm already you can flash the Asus zip, after flashing official firmware it will erase recovery and root.

Or you can put the latest zip on the SD card and reboot, the device will prompt to update when it detect a newer zip on the device. Pull down the notification menu to update

That works with a custom recovery installed? ;)
Have you tried it?

Download the CN version not WW. Unzip, flash, fastboot cwm 6.0.4.6, flash CROMi-X :)

I know THAT works, but I doubt that the tablet recognizes the firmware file by itself once you have a custom recovery installed. You have to flash it IN CWM.

Sorry, I don't get it. Uh, what does it mean that " the tablet recognizes the firmware file by itself"?

Is it still risky to flash the official update zip with CWM?

Any requirement for version? Like I must flash 4.2 firmware pack first when I am on 4.2, and then I would be able to go further.

The way the stock recovery works is: You put an Asus firmware file (once unzipped from the downloaded file) either on your internal or external card and the system will recognize it (Asus signs these files and only zip files with this Asus signature will get recognized), it will notify you via notification panel that an update is available and once you confirm it, the stock recovery will flash the update.
Our discussion was about the question: If you have a custom recovery installed - does this process still work? I don't think so.
And I don't seem to be able to test it, because the TF701 I got today seems to have a busted digitizer out of the box - sigh.

But you can flash the 4.3 update zip file (and again: Unzip the downloaded file once, resulting in another zip) in CWM like any other rom installation zip. Except for the fact that flashing the stock firmware will also replace your recovery. So after the flash you will be back to square two: You are unlocked with stock firmware.
You again have to install CWM in fastboot and then flash CROMi-X in CWM.

No because the stock firmware will overwrite the custom recovery at the same time with the stock one.

Ha! this time I beat you to the answer by a second or two! :p
What are you doing on the forum at this early hour anyway???
Got my TF701 today with a busted digitizer... Have not seen bleed this bad ever and after an hour of reading half the screen has a dark shadow :crying:
You were right, btw. I was really impressed with it's performance out of the box, but I don't know about QC.... Something is seriously wrong at Asus....

That's a real shame. Although I suspect that your fault is an isolated one.

Lol. But of all the people to get a bad 'un. Get it replaced asap. Was it an online shop?
Yeah - Amazon. No brick and mortar seems to carry it here... The only one left anyway is Best Buy and they sold out to Apple and Samsung. That's all you get there nowadays....
Now the question is: Return it Amazon or get it fixed thru RMA ???

Edit: Hmmm, just flashed the 4.3 update manually and now everything seems to be fine. Light bleed gone, shadows gone - should I trust it, is the other question......

Thank you so much, for your detailed and patient explanation.

Well, I’ll try flash the 4.3 update pack later after I backup my current system.

P.S. Is it possible to ignore the SKU version and just flash the zip? Like my device is CN, can I flash the WW version?

The CWM 6.0.3.7 just failed to recognize the official update zip file.
I'd tried two different version:WW T4_SDUpdate.zip and UL-K00C-CN-10.26.1.18-user.zip.
When I flashed them, the CWM said:

Code:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Warning: No file_contextsset_perm: some changes failed
E : Error in /sdcard/OTA./UL-K00C-CN-10.26.1.18-user.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
And that failed flashing almost bricked my device:crying: but I still managed to boot to the CWM and now I am restoring the previous backup.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

Be careful what you are flashing! Where did you get those files? WW T4???? That can't be an Asus firmware...???
