Has anyone tried building a custom case for their SGT? I ask because I intend to make one and your notes would be appreciated :) Im sure people will ask 'Why build a custom case when there are tons available?' Well I fancy myself a DIYer, and I want my SGT to stand out at work, and 'blend in' when I'm out and about. Sad to say I live in a country where carrying a nice gadget around is asking for trouble, so I'd like to disguise my SGT as a regular planner or hardbound book. I'll put up some pics when I get it done, maybe even put up a step by step guide if anyone's interested. ;)

I was thinking of creating a custom case at a moment. When I looked for something to start from I realised DVD boxes have almost the same size as the tablet.

Might give ideas to some.

I bought a hardbound book from a sale for the prototype. Figured I could practice on it before buying a perfectly good planner only to destroy the pages heheh. More updates soon!

Here is my custom case...

Made from bubble wrapped mailing envelope, cut down to size - by placing tab on a 'corner' of envelope and tracing out a pattern with 1/4" or so of extra envelope material. I then stylishly wrapped and sealed the sized down envelope with my favourite multi-purpose wrap and fastening material. Stylish and functional!

After a few weeks of use, I noticed the bubble wrap had a tendency to leave a smudge pattern on the screen, when I extracted the tab. So I split the case back open (on a seam), and lined the front inside surface with some lint free cloth that came with some piece of hardware I had acquired over the years. I fastened the cloth using some small strips multi-purpose fastener. I re-sealed the envelope with another layer of multi-purpose fastener/wrap. No more smudges!

planned upgrades:

add a scrap of velcro to the flap and case body (probably use 2-part epoxy for this)

fabricate small pocket on front of case, so I can tuck in a few small nick/nacks (ear phones, small BT device, usb cable). I will probably make this from multi-purpose wrap/fastener and add a velcro tab to close it.

.....
I had made a decent neo-prene sleeve for my Dell Mini 9; years gone by. I have much left over neo-prene and plan to make a sleeve for my TAB. This was made as a stop gap solution until I find the time to make the sleeve. (OTH, I just ordered a new man-bag, that may make the need for a new sleeve/case obsolete).

one of the medium sized black and white covered composition notebooks (non spiral bound) is just a bit larger then the tab ... and about as thick (for the 100 page one, if you can find the 120+ page ones it would be better) ...

cut out a pocket on the inside in place of the pages for the tab to sit ... and pick up one of the little leather binders that normally carry the note books and there you go ...

old styled look, common and cheap look but still semi professional ... all with the tab hidden within it.

Started on the book type case but messed up the spine, so I'm starting over on that one, but I was able to finish a different one last night.

Materials:
1 old Starbucks planner leather folio
1 plastic back cover for SGT
2 strips of Velcro tape
1 tube of superglue

Instructions:
I removed everything from inside the planner. Then, I attached the strips of Velcro on the inside. The matching strips go onto the back of the plastic case. I used superglue to hold things together, but you can sew it onto the leather if you want. Be careful not to get any superglue on the SGT, let things dry properly before placing the phone.

Hope you guys like it, I'm loving it so far coz the leather cover can be folded to the back like a regular paperback book!

Will do the book case this weekend.

materials used: an old metal bookend, bent slightly backwards, and some Velcro tape.
