I always make my backups on external sd-card since gingerbread ! My internal is always empty... making backup on internal storage is hazardous. This is a simple trick !
This twrp supports both.

This isn't about backup in internal storage.
TWRP by Paul'o'Brien doesn't work correctly, sometimes the phone reboot when i tap on backup and it doesn't allow to make Backup on SD Card (error 255).
I just want to be sure backup on Ext SD work fine with your TWRP version.
