Do you live in a paper house? sceptical about you getting a "pure" GPS lock indoors,I cannot get a Garmin sat nav with an aerial the size of a cigarette packet to lock so how did you do it with a smartphone?
He isn't lying lol, when I had VillainROM installed, I got a lock in about 5 seconds and it even showed what room in the house I was in.

I also have a Garmin sat nav, and it takes like 3 minutes to lock on to any sats indoors, so I understand your skepticism.

I also got similar results, from 20-25m to less than 5m it can't get better I think... some hardware limitation or maybe even military restriction

I am trying to get my Ace's GPS to behave so I have run the UK version of this fine utility. Still no real joy: after a 10 minute walk up and down my street under a clearish sky and with no obvious magnetic anomalies showing on GPS Status, I see a number of satellites but 0 fixes.

Can I usefully tart up the .zip's gps.conf with multiple instances of the NTP_SERVER line
e.g.
NTP_SERVER=uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.europe.pool.ntp.org

and, following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713,
can I add such lines as:
SUPL_NO_SECURE_PORT=3425
SUPL_SECURE_PORT=7275

and
REPORT_POSITION_USE_SUPL_REFLOC=1
ENABLE_WIPER=1
to any effect?

Is there any benefit in adding my ISP's ntp server to the top of the list and what is the correct syntax for doing this:
NTP_SERVER=ntp.virginmedia.com
or
NTP_SERVER=virginmedia.com
or something else, please?

Finally, in spite of chmodding the /etc/gps.conf file, I can't just copy a modified .conf file to /etc as it is a R/O file system :-(. What have I missed? Can I swap its gps.conf for my newer one and zip up the contents of United Kingdom.zip? Or will the META-INF folder need changes as well, please?

I feel so near yet so far...

Are these configs only for SGS II or any samsung may flash it?

My GPS is configured for europe and i'm located in Malaysia. If I flash the GPS.conf in here..could it be effective? @[email protected]
Should be suitable for all androids, sometimes there are problems with the CWM script though, in that case you can just replace the file with root explorer. Using the malaysian, or even the asian conf should increase lock speed, but it really depends on network location and gps quality on your location, never hurts though.

My rom developer (Costinutz32) had initially removed gMaps..so i've installed Sygic on my device..and b'coz the rom is based on I9001XXKQE, so the gps is configured for europe regions.

Costi said that I can can use the configuration in here..so am a bit confused now.
- Which region should i go for..Asia or Malaysia?
- ..and which file should I import into the system..the gps.conf only or anything else?

Thank you and sorry for the many questions. ^_^

Depends on your travelling habits, if you only stay in malaysia it's better, but when you travel alot Asia is better. You just put gps.conf in the folder /system/etc

If you have any more questions, fire away! ^^

Hi,

I see that the conf file all refer to internet link such as:
---------
ntp.org
gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
---------

Does it mean that it need to connect to the NTP server (using Internet) ?
If I am in a forest and there is no internet connection, will that conf file help in fixing GPS?

Thanks.

That's a really interesting question, and to be honest I didn't really know the answer. From what I've read I understand that the gps.conf is only used for assisted GPS, or simply A-GPS. Which indeed needs an internet connection, although even a GPRS connection suffices. And since GPRS seems to be integrated in GSM you benefit from these changes everywhere with a GSM connection. So as long as you can make a call you're GPS lock speed should improve.

Don't quote me on this though, as I said I just looked this up and am not 100% sure.
