Audio issues, just noticed

I have just noticed some audio issues with the device. Audio was fine a couple months ago, the last time I used the device for any audio-related tasks. This was before I upgraded the bootloader and installed one or more newer ROMs.

Today, for the first time in while, I wanted to listen to audio, and it isn't working well in any cases. The highest volume is very low, and there is distortion even at these levels. This is true for notifications, music, video sound tracks ... everything.

Can any of you think of anything software-related that could be causing this problem (perhaps with the newer bootloader ... ???)

I know another user had hardware issues with the speaker, and I'm hoping this isn't the case with my device.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You didn't install the new touch recovery by chance did you?

OK so 3 people installed it and all 3 had the same issue and going back didn't fix it ...

I see a pattern.

And I recommend we stop the touch cwm until it is fixed :(
Ive speaker issues, but not with headphone is this the same issue? Being on latest nightly/cwm

I'm on cm nightly from the 12th. Sound is fine for me for using the new touch recovery but I may flash back to cwm to be safe. But its good to see we have some progress at least. Hopefully peoples sound is restored again.

Yes, it's the same with me. Headphones are fine. Only speakers have a problem.

Could the new bootloader be the cause?

Well, I can't say for sure that the problem started for me with the touch recovery. I hadn't used audio for a few months, and in the interim, I installed other things (the new bootloader, a couple ROMs).

But if indeed this is due to the touch recovery, it raises the question of how we can fix it, given that going back to the older recovery doesn't help.

This ROM is the best for our device, thanks a lot for all who develops it and keeps up-to-date. But it's not perfect for me, cause...
I see these bugs:
- Mounts in /storage - a lot of USBDisk1*, why was that made instead of usefull /storage/sdcard0, /storage/sdcard1, etc?? The same chaos in settings->Memory, a lot of annoying "usb disks", and 7 of that never works, usb flash drive mounts on USBDisk1e, SD card on "h";
- Touchpad right button, that useless in this rom, on stock it has an option to act as a "back" key, very usefull, to control when there is no usb mouse;
- Sound glitches in some cases, mostly when shell shortly freezes;
- Browser keyboard key combinations ctrl+F, ctrl+H, ctrl+R, ctrl+W not working in russian layout;
- For what wifi tethering presents in settings? There is no ability to enable it, even with special tether apps. Needed for Superbeam mostly;
- Fake swap vol buttons according to screen orientation, they are still reversed. On AICP for Xperia M it works correctly;

I want to see:
- Hide annoying brightness panel from dock buttons in non fullscreen apps;
- Themes unnecessary service, that grows up to 100 mb. It will be nice to autodisable it in security/notification access. That option keeps apps in memory;
- Spell check not undrin words in stock browser;
- Option to del theme in themes pre-installed app;
- Long and double press full support fo all five navbar buttons (back, home, recents, and additional menu, search), like on AOKP, thats really amazing!
- Keyboard force t9. When we'll have special button for quick access to num panel, we'll have the best keyboard in universe...
- As we have dock keyboard its very difficult to type text and have no ability to see current layout of keyboard wherever on taskbar like it realised in smart keyboard. Thats evil!
- Unavailable to select hypertext in browser to copy in clipboard. Bug?

Happy to see any feedback :)

Do you have the touch recovery installed? Are you having the speaker issues?

I'm using 11.4.1.27, so if you have installed touch recovery and have no speaker issues, I would then try 11.4.1.29.

.
No I was using the touch recovery. To be safe I stopped using it because other people were having sound issues in case issues come up later, but I never had speaker issues.

Oh, OK. Thank you. I'll try the 11.4.1.29 bootloader, then.

... which raises a second question: does anyone know where I can get a flashable installaton for 11.4.1.29? The ones I've found after searching are all dead links.

Thank you very much.

Never mind. Found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=10544

Ya let us know if that fixes the sound. That would be good. At first I had not noticed the change in the bootloader version number from 27 to 29 til later. SO that is something to check if it makes any difference.

I've just installed 11.4.1.29, but it didn't fix the sound problem (sigh).

Maybe should I perform an entire ASUS firmware reinstallation? What do you folks think?

I probably would try anything myself if the sound is really bad.
Yeah, I guess I should try it.

Can anyone see any flaws in the following procedure?

1. Download UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.29-user.zip from ASUS.

2. Copy it to the root of /sdcard

3. Take a nandroid backup of my OS.

3.5. Full wipe, factory reset.

4. Boot into the bootloader.

5. Flash the stock recovery using fastboot: tf701t-recovery-stock-10.26.1.18.img

6. Boot into stock recovery. The zip that was copied to /sdcard should start installing.

6. After it's finished, boot into the new OS.

7, Shut down and reboot into the bootloader.

8. Reflash CWM recovery using fastboot.

9. Boot into recovery.

10. Restore the OS backup.

Looks good?
