Im in the same situation, maybee a damage. Build quality of this tab seems to be poor

Did it happen recently? My speaker went all distorted too a couple of days ago right after testing that Philz touch recovery. Although I have a hard time imagening how that would be related....

For what it's worth, my speakers have distorted mildly on full volume for months. I have not installed Philz Touch. It's honestly not hard to damage the tiny speakers in tablets and cell phones, a build up of dust behind the port can cause it. Often times the speakers themselves are cheap and terrible. My wife's tegra note 7 had blown speakers simply from our kid dropping it on a carpeted floor while it was playing audio.

I'm also not sure how the recovery partition would have any influence over the rest of the tablets setting. I'm not convinced the two are related myself. Only way would be if the recovery it's self is improperly flashing software, but for it to be a permanent change that even stock releases won't fix is truly over the top.

Honestly, the TF701 has been enough of a hassle for me for build quality that if Asus released a K1 transformer model tomorrow I would not buy it. Between the now lackluster software support, the poorly constructed docking hinge and other hardware issues combined with their god awful RMA department, I just can't justify it anymore.

You all should inquire with ASUS if it is indeed a HW issue (which it seems like). I haven't really added much device specific to CM-11 in quite some time (except some alarm related patches to kernel, a sysctl for userspace to adjust a tcp param, some translations for the dock app(s), some cleanup in init, wifi changes as per ASUS and 3 cam related blobs and one oem related blob as per ASUS); nothing really related to audio.

Maybe contact Asus and see if they will fix it anyway if the sound is really important. Its would look good on them at this stage for having made flaky speakers. I dont know if I would contact asus myself. But it is worth a try.

Unable to unlock bootloader on new TF701T

My old TF701T got hosed (battery and speaker both messed up).

I have a new TF701T now, and I am trying to unlock its bootloader so I can root it and install this ROM. I'm using my own unlock procedure which I posted here last year: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51505527&postcount=254

Unfortunately, when I get to step #31, I keep getting this error after accepting the "I agree" notice when running the Unlock utility and clicking on "Press to unlock your device".

An unknown error occurs, which might be a network connection issue.
please wait and try again later.

I've done this over and over during a several-hour period, and I always get the same results.

My network connection is definitely working properly.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, what have you done to correct it?

Thank you in advance.

Make sure to register the new serial at Asus. If that's in, keep trying. The last time I tried to unlock after I had tab replaced for HW defects it took multiple times.

Ah! Forgot about serial number registration. I can't find the page on the ASUS site for doing that. Do you happen to have a link? Never mind. Finally found it.

PS: when you retried multiple times to unlock, did you get the same symptoms that I am seeing?

I would be very grateful if somebody has a way to contact ASUS so they could register the serial number in their databases.
I have the same problem with unlocking and customer support just keeps telling me to send it to the service shop. First time they just changed the mainboard which didn't help. Now it's on it's way to the service shop the second time.

OK. I finally was able to unlock the bootloader after a few dozen tries over more than 4 hours.

I guess that ASUS must have ongoing, intermittent issues with their unlock servers.

Here's the ASUS product registration page: http://www.asus.com/support/product/aprp/?lang=1033

Microphone not working

Hi Guys,

Complete n00b I'm afraid. Recently flashed latest CM11 snapshot (20150901) from stock ROM and find my microphone doesn't work. Anyone else experiencing this? Other than that I'm loving CM. Sooo much better than the Asus stock! :D

Thanks!
George

Mic should work. Please pick up a more recent build (nightly section).

Thanks.
