Tks bro! How do I install a Kernel? You can help me?

First I'll try to reinstall everything... I am using Samsung's Android 2.3.6 and I'll try to upgrade to the CM9 again.

But, how is your battery? It's about how time? (with and withou music/3g/wifi)

To install the kernel just download it and flash it via recovery, as you do with the ROM. Then you'll have the kernel options in the Settings menu.

I don't know exactly how long the battery lasts because is my girlfriend's phone and i don't have it here right now. Anyway, she uses it a lot and says it's ok, just like the stock ROM.

Tks bro... I'll try it this week!

If anything goes wrong, or not, I'll report here to help who has the same problem.

Another question: the right way to install de CM9 is with the battery at 100% or it don't matter?

Tks!

It doesn't matter. Install it and then calibrate the battery with Battery Calibration, as i've said before.

If that still doesn't help... there's a thread in the General subforum where some W-ers are investigating. Be a volunteer there... we're about to nail the cause.

The thread in question has been moved to the Q&A subforum. It´s located here.

It doesn't matter. Install it and then calibrate the battery with Battery Calibration, as i've said before.

Recalibrating battery will not fix it. Such tools are deleting completely the battery stats. After this the OS has to rebuild it, which takes much more time to calibrate the battery again. The ROM´s can handle this much better. It´s not the calibration you think that fixed it. It´s the Conservative governor that is just masking the issue for you but not fixing it.

So no calibration is needed.

Can you help me with the kernel? I don't understand what files I have to download... The versions in the main post have no the same number of links do download!

You just have to download the last one, that is the "Chronos" one. It's written in the title and in the changelog.

The battery drain was better even with SmartAssV2 governor, after i changed kernel, fixed permissions and calibrated the battery.
I've always used Battery Calibration, everytime i've changed ROM on my Desire HD. Why do you say it's useless?
As far as i know, it delete the battery stats so the ROM can calibrate the battery again, being sure that is calibrated right, not using the calibration data of an old ROM, that are surely different.

hi there, it has been a very long time since I lost my phone and stopped posting on XDA for a while.

I wanna ask. is now wonder's CyanogenMod 9 is running on a 3.0 version kernel? And one more, Beta 2 was the last ROM I used, so then what's "RC" stands for?

greets :) Ivan K

Hello, bro! Welcome back!

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, CM9 now uses Kernel 3.0, since RC4 IIRC.

2. RC = "Release Candidate", the last stage before "Stable"/"Release". When all niggling bugs have been exterminated, it goes into "Stable"... and Arco moves on to the 10.x family.

Oh, bad you've lost it! :(
RC stands for Release Candidate! It runs on 3rd kernel and "hell yeah" it's Wonderful!!! ;)

You will get better battery drain by using SmartAssv2 or Lulzactive against the stock Ondemand governor, no matter you are doing the rest or not. Fixing permissions is also a "must do" after flashing a new Kernel, but whiping the battery stats is pure nonsense.

It´s like said. The Operating System can handle this much batter than simply whiping the stats. It manages the stats by itself and is recalibrating the battery itself. By deleting the stats with an app, you will get for a while not accurate readings which may show you a much lower consumption or a much higher consumption and battery drain than it really is till the ROM collects enough data to show accurate readings. So without whiping battery stats it will generally take 1 or 2 charging cycles to recalibrate the battery and to show accurate readings. By whiping them it can take much much longer till enough data is collected.

There is even an article and a video about the nonsense of whiping battery stats, which are explaining in detail and better than me why it´s not good to often whipe the stats.

Beside this you are not flashing totally different ROMs on your phone from totally different devs. Just a customized Kernel
All the custom Kernels out there are still basing on Arcos Kernel with a few more governors and some tweaks.

I used Battery Calibration because i switched from stock ROM to CM9, not because i've installed the kernel.
Anyway, thank you for you explanation! I didn't know all this stuff!

You could simply google a million of sites and get your answer.

Anyway:
01) Backup all the apps and system data with Titanium Backup
02) Backup everything with a nandroid backup (a backup you do from the recovery)
03) If necessary, backup SMS, call logs and stuff like this with specific apps
04) If you really wanna stay safe, backup the files that you have on the sd on a different device.
05) Do a full wipe: wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache
06) Install the ROM
07) Install GApps
08) Install a custom kernel (if you want to)
09) Restore all the apps with Titanium Backup (i suggest to "restore the missing apps" so you won't overwrite the apps the ROM has already installed)
10) Backup the system data with Titanum Backup, choosing carefully what doesn't belongs to the old ROM. I usually restore only one with Titanium icon, like wireless networks, account, wallpaper and stuff like this.
11) Do not restore system apps. Like SMS program.

That's it.

APN and pin lock issue is fixed for next build, both CM9 and CM10.
    19
However, it works for me on RC2 (although the AP is very old — ASUS WL-500g Deluxe, Broadcom chipset, 802.11g, using WPA2-PSK). But I set it up on alpha4 and did not perform any wipes since then.

Strange, cause nothing has been changed regarding wifi between RC2 and RC3.

    cm9 RC3 can't record video using front camera..am i the only one?

Confirmed. Was caused by frame rate fix for back camera. I fixed it for front camera now, and compiled a new camera.msm7x30.so
Push it to system/lib/hw and reboot.

Preview and recording should be a lot smoother now.

    FAQ:

How can I update this ROM?
Unless exceptions aren't mentioned, you simply have to flash the latest ZIP-file of the ROM using CWM. You files should stay untouched, but still it is always recommended to make a backup.

    Does it support my language?
CyanogenMod (9) is multilingual, so it supports all common language in the world.

How can I update my basebandversion?
    a) You can flash the Baseband from here.
    or
    b) Make a Nandroid backup of your current CM9 -> wipe everything -> Flash the latest stock ROM from your region via ODIN ->
flash ClockWorkMod -> wipe everything -> flash CM9 -> restore data.

    What is CWM ?
CWM stands for ClockWorkMod. It is a custom Recovery which enables complete backups (Nandroid backup) and complete restores.
    (HowTo install)

    What are GApps?
GApps stands for GoogleApps. Google Apps = Google Play Store, Google Calender ...
Due to copyright, CyanogenMod is not allowed to implement GoogleApps directly in their ROMs, that is why you have to install it manually.

How do I install or update Google Mail?
Due to copyright, CyanogenMod is not allowed to implement Google Mail directly in their ROMs, that is why you have to install/update it manually:
Follow this link on your device and open it with the Google Play Store: click here

Where do I find the external SD on CM9 ?
The directory has changed (The following are the directories before swapping):
    external(physical) SD card: /external_sd/ or /mnt/external_sd/
internal SD card: /sdcard/ or /mnt/sdcard/

How do I swap the internal and external SD on CM9 ?
Settings -> Storage->Menu-Button->Storage configuration (a restart might be necessary)

How do I activate MTP on CM9 ?
    Settings ->Storage->Menu-Button->USB connection->mark MTP

How do I enable brightness control for the notification bar?
Settings -> System ->Status bar ->Activate brightness control
Now you can use the notification bar to control the brightness.(wipe on it left and right)
    Source

My phone restarts randomly after update?
Note: All your Data will stay untouched (Backup/Restore)
    1.Open ClockWorkMod->backup and restore->backup to externl sdcard
    2.wipe data/factory reset
3.wipe cache partition(not sure if needed)
4.install zip from sdcard->choose the latest CM9 version
    5.advanced restore from external sdcard->choose backup->Restore data
    6.reboot

The battery of my device drains rapidly fast, what can I do?
After flashing a new ROM you will have to do several(5+) charging cycle in order to get a calibrated battery.
There are also battery calibration apps, such as Battery Calibration which help you with the battery calibration. Long story short: Be patient.

My Data connections / Adding APNs doesn't work, what can I do?
It is a known bug in (Alpha 1). Flash this zip to solve this bug.

What is a funny SIM card ?
A funny SIM card, is a SIM card which provides GSM connection, but does not let you enable data connection, because APNs can't be added.(only on CyanogenMod)Flash this zip to solve this bug.
