I have CM 11 M8 Snapshot.
And it sometimes freezes and won't work. I have to remove and reinsert the battery. It also takes a long time to boot.
and it's always really really slow. and gets stuck when I run apps. I tried factory reset. it makes it smooth but just for few days and it starts lagging again.

You could try a "lighter" ROM but it is something to be expected on such a old device. Clearing your cache and dalvik every now and then should help also.

I haven't used any KitKat ROM in half a year, but generally that was my experience when I had it for a week. You could try turning on the low RAM mode, but if it comes to that, downgrading to a 4.2.2 ROM is better (you get the same speed, but WITH lockscreen widgets and other functions the low RAM KitKat mode turns off). You could also try enabling BigMem and using a more performance orientated CPU scheduler, but that comes with lower battery life.
