D855 best for custom stuff?

Hi guys, I'm thinking of going to the G3 from my S4 in the coming week, and where I live in HK, I see we can get the models F400 (S/K/L) or D855.
I read around quite many roms call for D855 only, does this mean that you advise me to really hunt down this model (I think it's EU model?), or the F400 could be compatible?
I must say that I choose my phones a lot for the possibilities offered by XDA, and other than the OPPO One (my first choice, depending how hard it'll be to get one here), this is the second best large screen available in my price range.
I'm not familiar with LG hardware her on XDA, so I want to hear from you all before I commit.
