Hey guys, so what do you think, which it the two is a better device?

Specs are almost similar with acer being 7" vs lenovo 10". Same processor, gpu and other hardware.

Better io options on acer iconia specially the USB and nini USB.

Screen better on Lenovo.

I am still confused on the scalibility, developer support and future proof ics on the chosen device.

Thanks!

I can't speak about the A100, as I have only owned an A500. It was a very good product, beautiful screen, many ports, good sound, etc. But I returned it and bought the ThinkPad, because I have owned many of those laptops, and they were always the best.

The A500 could be rooted if you had a specific serial number, but I don't know about the A100 -- I would check that. Why does rootability matter? So you can add apps and make customizations you cannot do with the stock tab.

As for root -- see for yourself in the A100 forums. The ThinkPad K1 probably won't see too many customizations, and Lenovo is not a great leader for innovation, but there is a work in progress for an ICS 4.03 update by forum members here, and it may eventually be applicable to the K1. Look into that for the A100.

Bottom line -- as you said, they are equal in specifications, so I would go with the tab with the most customization options. Please let me know what you decided.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I looked and seems like both have their bootloaders locked, hence not very active for the custom rom developers.

Both are rootable, so it seemed like on the forums.

Acer a100 was launched early last year and hence should be a lower priority for acer, since a200 has also been launched. Although official ICS is expected by april and leaked already available.

Lenovo K1 also officially releasing ICS around the same time, but a fairly neew release by Lenovo so I guess, the support life should be better. Plus very recently, around mid Feb, Lenovo released the source code for their devices which to me sounds like they are looking at a developer friendly model for their devices. I don't know if that would make the bootloader unlocked for full developer support and developer interest, so only time will tell.

For similar prices (a100 costing 20 cheaper) but 8gb vs a 32gb k1, opted for a k1. Costing 335 canadian dollars with the taxes.

Hope the decision is right, will only know once I start using the device.

Thanks!

The stock Lenovo firmware leaves a lot to be desired performance wise, but.....

I think the future is still bright for the K1 :D

I have been reading that, really hoping some developer adopts the k1 so we can see more activity on the device.

Not much action here on xda with the k1 - pretty surprising actually!

It seems more chatter on rootzwiki for k1 in the ThinkPad Tablet section

and the first rom has been released ... for the K1. Check the Devp section.
But still in beta. At this point I am only looking for a root for the most recent update and I noticed its not available yet.

Sad but I would really love to root this device so I can add the performance increases myself, instead of relying on someone to create a stable custom rom for this device.

I just sold my A500 and will be buying a TPT 1838-25U as soon as I can. I liked the A500 but I tried numerous apps to try and write but to no avail. I needed something that I could write on, I know paper still exist, as well as other features that the TPT offers.

I would personally pick up a Samsung Note for that needs over any tablet, because of the same resolution, pen input and an almost tablet sized screen, with a phone pocketability - a confused personality between the two, but I will assume it would just be a matter of getting used to.

Good luck with your purchase.
