Any kernel with the android patches from Google.
Question, what new things can we expect? Ion, zcache, what *realy* usefull thing was missing due to old kernel?

isn't swap kinda useless for our phones?

720p, can't we already achieve that on our old kernel (cm 7.2)? same for other os

no, usb host mode is not supported by the hardware of the defy.
Thats wrong. OMAP3630 chipset has support for usb-otg.

Soo, are we now waiting for the sources or whats the current status on this?

the chipset has, youre right, but the defy does not support it. not everything the chipset supports is enabled.

So if the Hardware Supports it but it isnt enabled, arent we able to activate it with full control over the software due to the possibility to flash custom kernels?

atm for usb otg you have to have
Defy withKernel 2.6.29.
"Angler Gábor found out, that Motorola
has disabled the OTG support in
kernels of later versions. This was
tested on Android 2.2 (Froyo) with the
kernel 2.6.32. The OTG support cannot
be loaded by kernel modules. "

So basically custom kernel will bring usb host mode back on defy.

Can someone tell me what custom kernels are good for?
and what is swap?
noob questions :D
tnx
Search it up much quicker ;)
It's great to see the defy getting better after it was taken away from me :(
Hope to compile a custom kernel one day for fun :D
Good luck Quarx with getting this fully functioning once you have the source.

Well, in fast words.

Swap is kind of RAM from Linux systems that are in the HD (or SD-CARD). Its useful for devices that don't have much RAM.

Custom kernels its a kernel done by the devs. They get a original kernel (normally from http://www.kernel.org/ ) and adapt it to the mobile with news/different device drivers. It can support some new features, like wifibdirect, better support to ext2/ext4/fat32 file system and others.

Google it, have a lot more things that a updated kernel could help on our defy(+). A custom kernel even more!

guess we can port LG optimus black's kernel to defy once thr source code is available. t
should be newer kernel
Why?
We can make our own! Moto gave us the source(idk how correct the source is)

And stop saying "Port Kernel"! U can't do that u have make it from source with proper device tree!
