You know, I don't get the reason for that...
System is still ext3... so why do SBFs crash on data being ext4? They don't deal with data...
In fact, I've had data preserved over an SBF flash in the past...
Can anyone explain?
A sbf file have lots of blocks. Not every sbf is the same. If your sbf don't overwrite data, data is preserved.

So we need someone who knows it better. Please note that if data partition gets corrupted then it is being repaired by sbf flash.
And I don't remember that any my data survive full sbf flash, ever

Hmmm... k... thanks :)
(sorry out of 8 thanks for the day)

So MAYBE 4.5.1-132 (my sbf) can work with ext4 data! Not that I'm gonna try that out...

AH MATE I THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. i did read that there was another file that needed flashing along with cm10 if you were on bl7 but i forgot all about it. so when i flashed cm10 with the new kernal it worked fine (albiet a tad laggy but i have always found that to be the case with jb) but the battery not charging problem remained. i will have another look and read and see if i can find the file i need (i cant even remember what it was but i know i read that it was something!!!).
Did you get the battery charging on bl7 red mb525 to work somehow?

it is dangerous to flash a sbf.because ext. is not sure.just now my data partition become ext4.and i remember i made it ext3 before.if sbf crashes with ext4,then no bootmenu or stock recovery will make me die.
maybe i do not know exactly how does newest cm10 work....
still thanks for help;)

As long as you have a working custom recovery and can start adb (in the Advanced menu) you can (re)format /data into anything (supported by the kernel and tools) you want - ext3, ext4, etc.

i once again have given up. i am using kangs cm7 and still using an external charger to charge up the battery. tired of playing around with the phone really and am simply waiting for a slight price drop in the xt890 and some custom roms before i buy one and throw the defy away but until then well better the devil you know than the devil you dont. sorry i cant be of any help. edit meant to say in all that that i didnt even try it... while i think it may work i cant be bothered to test it and have more important things to do with my time.

One question: why are we going to kernel 3.0.8 (it's about a year and half old). Why can't we get kernel 3.6? I'm using 3.6.6 on my desktop machine.

Cause there is no device with the same chipset like defy that runs on that kernel.

Fair enough. Although this is a problem with most Android devices. Even Nexus 7 with yesterday's 4.2 update has kernel 3.1.

no, the reason is that NSA and CIA has outlawed it.

(seriously, to the original poster who asked this q: this is a rather complex question, google "android linux kernel" and thoroughly read through the first 5 page of results and come back if you still have questions, thx very much)

can't finish 2ndboot

I'm trying to get CM10 2ndboot running. I have a defy with bayer module. currently I'm running the rooted BL7 version postet here by wushantao (fixed SBF). So this is what I did to install CM10 2ndboot:
  • Flash Kernel_BL7.zip for getting EU kernel
  • Let it boot up and check if version 2.6.32.9-ge281b6e (success!)
  • Go to recovery again and flash Quarx 6.10 kernel
  • Flash 18.11 2ndboot built
  • Wipe Cache and Dalvik
  • Change to 2ndboot in bootmenu
After all this it starts booting, with the Cyangenmod10 logo rotating. But even after 20 minutes it doesn't finish booting, reboots also didn't help..

Many needless steps. Leave out flashing kernels, latest is integrated into ROM.

-sbf
-root/recovery
-data wipe
-flash latest build + gapps
- wipe cache + dalvik
- check in bootmenu for correct clocks & vsels & interactive governor
- boot up within 2-3min

Thanks, but I'm using MacOSX, so I'm always rooting by hand.. Do you know a tool that is doing that and runs in MacOSX?

Facepalm

You need to root it yourself

Coolest place on XDA
... I have only this one SBF (BL7) which works.. give me a working SBF and I will try it.

When I go to custom recovery:
E:Can't mount dev/block/mmcblk1p24
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount Cache:recovery/command
E:Can't mount dev/block/mmcblk1p24
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount Cache:recovery/log
E:Can't open Cache:recovery/log
E:Can't mount dev/block/mmcblk1p24
(Invalid argument)

so I can't make a clean wipe anymore.. what can I do??

Your partitions are damaged.

Do you have Defy or Defy+ ?
