AAAAHHHHH

Every time that I attempt to install a custom ROM from the SD card, or from ROM manager, my phone (Motorola Defy, rooted) gets stuck booting. I've attempted 7 times in the past week and none have turned out right. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Edit-
Every time I have wiped caches
When I install from ROM manager, it boots into recovery, and then decides not to do anything for an hour.(Yes an hour. I know it's supposed to take a while, but not that long.)

Don't use Rom manager. Install 2nd init from market! CWM recovery is included with 2nd init. Access CWM recovery from bootmenu and wipe/flash from there
I have been trying to use 2nd Init too... I guess i'll try again.

EDIT-
Tried, and... Failed :(

After installing a custom ROM from CWM, you are supposed to get stuck in a boot loop. Remove the battery for at least 10 seconds, then re-attach it, and enter into boot mod (Pwr button + volume up). Then connect your Defy to your PC and flash a FIXED SBF via RSD-lite. Then reboot and you should be fine.

Thanks so much! I looked at multiple tutorials of how to install custom roms, and none of them told me to do this. Anyway, I feel very stupid now.
