There seems to be a fresh exploit out, but I haven't been able to make it work for the Defy - without a doubt, because of my limited skills :)

JBoogie3 is on the case, he'll look into it when he gets home tonight :)

Anybody feeling adventurous, knock yourselves out: http://c-skills.blogspot.com/

i follow up this thread because it's, for me, actually the best way to get froyo on your defy

- Fist all make a nandroid backup of your actual system
- Wipe data and cache
- Use RSD Lite and flash your defy with the original unrooted Chinese Froyo rom from the 1st page of thread
- use the new one click root software http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709
- apply the MARKET update with update_gaaps_for_clockwordmod.zip (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899450 )

And you can use titanium backup after installing manually busybox to uninstall any unneeded application :)

imo the stock chinese rooted via super one click offers worse performance than the 2.34.1 with JIT In terms of benchmarks it is pretty much the same, however in everyday use the touch screen doesn't seem very responsive - ie really having to press the touch screen to get it to respond and very laggy/stuttery when scrolling through. Yes I did wipe and also reinstalled 3 times to check it wasn't anything to do with the process. My current verdict is I'm on 2.1 for now, back to my silky smooth 2.34 for now

Its true that Chinese froyo isnt so responsive like 2.34.1 but with Chinese froyo i get one day more batterylife so i would never go back to 2.34 ;)

wth? I'm on the newly rooted stock froyo and it's doing great - as soon as I get LauncherPro installed, until then, it's a laggy pile of molasses!

I wish it was but I can't be doing with laggy roms (I use LP). I even restored my apps from market, in case the titanium backup restote was causing issues lol. I get 2 to 3 days on 2.34 which is ample, id like flash but I can wait. The biggest thing is the sensitivity of the touch screen its even unrespobsive in the stock recovery, once flashed 2.34 sbf all was back to normal.

Which is the recovery and where to get it?

Sorry for the question...

edit: I'm going to flash the sbf and I think that is the way to install google apps...

Solved: Same recovery but usb debug disabled... (I forgot that :/)

Wow. I'm really impressed!
And I'd like to share those impressions! :)

What I did just now:
1. Updated from TMob USA to this official Chinese 2.2.
(RSD lite, than wipe was needed)
2. Rooted using SuperOneClickFor2.1.zip
3. Installed Google apps.
4. OC to 1100 Mhz using Milestone Overclock latest beta.
5. Removed Chinese/unused apps using System App Remover.
6. Unloaded the rest using ATK.

7. Performed several performance tests! ;)

Results:
Quadrant 1474, Linpack 14.6

Disk Benchmark:
10Mb/4Kb
NAND 2.41 write, 3.16 read
SDHC 3.44 write, 3.69 read

10Mb/1Mb
NAND 26.11 write, 97.09 read
SDHC 32.36 write, 81.97 read

Everything seems working fine.
I mean GSM/EDGE, Camera/Flashlight, Gmail, Market, Flashplayer, Custom Recovery..
Didn't check every singe app yet! ;)
I find it useable, and I'm not going to restore my backups.
It runs so smooth...

The only thing I'm missing right now is SetVSel support...
