I sent in my defy with broken LED to Motorola.

"Their unit had an unofficial firmware. We would like to point out that this situation leads to an exclusion of warranty. Your device, we have repaired after consultation with Motorola with 100% participation grace. We recommend future only authorized software updates to play on your device."

Does anyone with original firmware 2.1(never been flashed any rom) having flash burned as well?
Just want to narrow down if it really is all the way came down to motorola own hardware issue..

Will receiving my defy this week. Just want to make sure if it indeed an internal hardware issue all along.

Did you send it with unofficial firmware or not? How did they discover it?? Curious! :D

Hey Walter,

How did they fix it? Was it a software or hardware problem?

I had a weaker flashlight but used advanced camera app with torch led function or something like it a few times and it got strong again as before using a Tesla Led flashlight app.

Just used Camera app a few times, going in and out until it came back well.

Now I have a firmware with Pay's ROM and led goes weak on flashlight app and then strong again on video recording or camera apps, no problems anymore on this rom and firmware.

Cheers!
Andrew

My Defy came back from Motorola Brazil and they fixed both earpiece problem and flashlight problem (caused by flashing chinese releases several times) and now im booting into MIUI, lets go back to the modding world again.

like krille said its probably a voltage thing.

in a german android forum someone wrote the same, providing "proof" by mentioning, that in china the defy is named ME525 instead of MB525 in europe/us. could be a hint to different hardware.

im not too familiar with LED technology but "killing" the LED with a higher voltage would exclude the possibility to "revive" it by using a different firmware, right?
Depends how damaged it is. If the voltage is too high, and the light is "fried", then no. But if there is some kind of protection that prevents the flash from coming on when voltage is too high, it might be saveable.

yo~My friend from wuxi !Sorry to cannot help you . You shoule read the first post carefully before flash your device.

**NOTE2**: If you are using a non-Chinese defy, DO NOT USE THE CAMERA FLASH while on the Chinese rom, it WILL kill your LED

The black dot is visible always? Or have to turn the flashlight to see the black spot?

I tried the command in a terminal emulator in my case has not been turned on.

THX and sorry for my english.
before you run cmd "echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/torch-flash/flash_light", you may run"su" in your terminal , it will let the terminal got hightest purview,

My gf's defy failed its water resistant test, and the flashlight fried.

I just brought a new ledflash for USD4 in China, any good tutorials out there that shows step by step how to open up the defy and change the flash?

I found a thread where it was german or something and the translation didnt make much sense to me

Hi all, my defy's flashlight has been dead.:(:(

When I used the UK 3.4.2 froyo, the battery not saving.
Then I flashed to the Chinese froyo via nandroid. I took two photos with the system camera. Found that the flashlight was so dim.
Immediately, I flashed back the UK rom. But used the camera, the LED doesn't light no longer.

Is it the driver problem or LED has been damaged?

I need the flashlight!
excelent je vous remerci beaucoup merci:)
