I would also like to mention that if it turns out that this is incorrect, I apologize for getting everyone worked up. That doesnt mean the phone is any less awesome. :)

I can't find anywhere confirming it is 512.
There is none on ATT's website, but that droidlife chart claims Captivate to have 512.

I think they all have a total of 512k. It's just that Samsung didn't feel the need to say how much of that was dedicated to video. Based on the fact that stock ROMS' show less than 350k and usually only 128k - 181k of memory available, to believe that the 512 is available is just crazy.

I think Samsung was just trying to clear things up a bit by putting out there how much was available.

I'm also playing with a droid 2 of late and even with a task killer on everything the best i could get is...(right after the kill)
MEMORY -477mb, free 271mb, 224mb idle

and after 1 minute of doing nothing, just staying on the screen (i know some of crapware loads up)
MEMORY - 477mb, free 196mb, 81mb idle

so much for the 512k

You guys are right, probably just a mistake on Sammy's part. That makes a ton of sense, some guy on the marketing team must of goofed. That droidlife chart is legit however it is also inaccurate and therefore useless. There goes my argument! :D

"One of the big arguements was the Onboard memory. It is verified at 512MB Flash/384MB RAM with 2GB internal memory."

that's about the cpu. 512k L2 cache is a different world from the FLASH RAM 512 megs that the fascinate comes with.

Really what i think people want to know is what the /384 number mean. The obvious belief is that it's available RAM and from all tests of RAM from other galaxy s phones, it's the same across all phones.

So you guys have seen this by now I'm sure.

h t t p :// www-bgr-com.vimg.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/WM04.jpg[/url]

I just ran the same test on my friend's captivate and it shows the same amount of free ram, at 333356kb and the processor also running at 800mhz. It's likely that it just downclocks itself to preserve batterylife.

So it seems that this phone is not gimped and is the same as all the other Galaxy S devices out right now. Though the Hummingbird architecture is different from that of OMAP, in that it reserves 128mb for the Graphics card.

Here's a confirmation of the memory. The video's very fuzzy, but the memory's verified nonetheless. It's an early look at an unactivated fascinate.

It. Has been confirmed that it does indeed have 512. It just has something to do with the way 2.1 processes the ram. I also have captivate and it only shows 215 max on system panel with everything closed. This will b a badass phone, and i will have a droid x for sale. Mainly bc i love the SUPER AMOLED.

All i know is that I looked at an EPIC yesterday and loaded system info and ram the stock RAM check. It's 325 megs. Since i had both the Vibrant and the Captivate, i know they are 325 as well.

So the question is not whether the fascinate is different, it's whether we want to still beat a dead horse question in the mouth. The droid, droidx, and all other android phones all show @300-400 megs of ram, not the 512megs advertised. So either advertisers are screwing you or you can begin to understand that the the total RAM has nothing to do with Free RAM.

I actually wasn't refering to the SoC cache, but to this:

"Within this Galaxy S phone, the S5PC110A01 was found on a package-on-package that partnered it with Samsung’s OneNAND and other Samsung memory technologies."

This meaning they stacked to SoC on a FLASH package (or visa versa) similar to stacking FLASH packages in SSD's. I mean this with all due respect, but please read the entire reference before you dismiss it as useless.

Why did I read this thread??? Now I want a Fascinate! I love my DInc but the only issue I have with it is sub-par gaming performance... If the Fascinate can also pair a Wiimote natively I think I'm jumping ship!

I'm in the exact same boat. Running CM6.0.2 right now specifically for the wii mote pairing. I already know I'm jumping ship because the software shortcomings will be handled within the next week or two with custom roms (maybe a cm6 port if we're lucky).
