This is stock kitkat rom (4.4.2) rooted, with unsecure boot.img, Kernel is stock. this rom is designed to be flashed via CWM recovery, I also have 4.3 rom setup the same, this is as easy way to reinstall kitkat.

To install place signed_dell_v8_kitkat.zip on micro sdcard or internal sdcard, boot into CWM Recovery, format cache, data, system then navigate to signed_dell_v8_kitkat.zip and install. Once installed reboot to system, select no when asked to fix root, once at desktop setup your tablet as you normally would setup a new install.

Excellent man I have had small problems with my tablet for a while now, I fasttboot, the system files SDC provides they work, but tablet ran like a walmart buggy that had one bad wheel clunk clunk clunk. Now tablet runs like a race horse.

Do you know why this rom runs better than SDC system and boot.img? I guess I am asking do you guys use same system and boot.img, and if you do does installing via your recovery make the tablet perform better cause your method sets permissions and creates links and so on?

Again thanks man, this is the way I expected my tablet to run, when I bought it, finally I may get some use out of this tablet.

I haven't used fastboot to flash system files on this tablet, I have with other androids, boot.img I have flashed via fastboot, I can't tell any difference in flashing boot.img via fastboot or recovery.

I would think my system and boot.img are the same as SDC, mine were pulled from my tablet, not sure were SDC got his, but seeing both are stock, it would seem reasonable they are the same. My system includes root and I removed recovery-from-boot.p from system., boot.img has been modified to always allow root in adb.

If you were talking about two zip installs I would most likely guess the other person used a kitchen or some auto script to make their rom, these fail on complicated installs like this tablet, Due to the amount of symbolic links.

I make zips install via hand, I go through each folder in system, find and record all symbolic links, add each and everyone to my updater-script ;), I also make sure I link to toolbox if it's linked in stock rom, some people use busybox, this can be a mistake, cause if you upgrade busybox via playstore you could loose all your symbolic links. Causing tablet to be caught in an endless bootlooop, I have seen this happen to people and created them a permission.zip that reset all their permissions correctly, cause they could only boot into recovery.

The only issue I have is my 64gb SD card isn't working. In the settings, storage, it shows the card but can't access my music, movies or pictures. Edit : Everything's working fine, just needed to give it a little time.

can you publish the instruction for setting up dual boot?
I will, once, I get moved and get internet, right now I just use my tablet tethered through cell phone.

I use same method on all my devices, http://www.androidtablets.net/threads/how-to-dual-boot-via-lenovo-a2109.52475/

Basically one just partitions their sdcard, modify boot.img's ramdisk to mount sdcard instead of internal partitions.

Then use adb or flashable.zip to install the rom to sdcard, then to be able to switch between installs flash boot.img via recovery. You have two flashable boot.img on your sdcard, one boots to device other boots to sdcard.

Once move is done, I will upload 4.3 rom and modified boot.img.

2 quick questions!

  1. Will this work with the Dell Venue 8 3840?
  2. Can I use this rooted image to downgrade from 4.4.4?

My story goes like this:
I got the Venue 8 3840. It only comes with 1gb of Ram. Which happens to not be enough for my simple uses (Facebook + web browsing). Let alone my complex ones (gaming).
So when the 4.4.4 update came out, I installed it, thinking it would help. Now things are even worse. I've pretty much stopped using it.
I've followed some instructions via this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/dell-venue/development/guide-how-to-root-android-4-4-4-dell-t2918427

It is supposed flash 4.4.4 rooted using ADB and Fastboot. But when I run a root checker it fails.
Really... I would rather have 4.4.2 rooted as it seemed to be better for performance.
Also. I'm going to do a RAM swap via SDcard on the tablet. I've already done it on my old android phone, and I love the results.

Thank you for your time and effort in creating this image.

No this rom will not work on 3840, only for
3830. The two tablets are completely different.

Do you know how can i downgrade my dell venue 8 3830 to Android 4.2.9 or 4.3? Because there still the bug with 4.4.2 that turns the screen black and you have to lock it and then unlock it to get the screen works normally again.

There are several ways, linking with cell phone is hard for me, look at first post in this thread, I linked to SDC's thread, that thread has images you need to downgrade.

Sounds like you didn't unlock the boot loader. Post exactly what you did from start to finish.
