Overclocking anyone?

Hi all...

I've been reading some posts on the custom roms and some say they can overclock the Moto G to 1.6Ghz. Some say that the performance doesn't change or it's slower at higher clock rates.

I have a Moto G rooted and I was wondering how can I test this using the stock rom. I can install SetCPU but I think I'll need to thinker with the custom settings to allow higher clocks.

Since this is the resources thread and nobody talked about plain overclock I would like to know if there is any problem in using SetCPU or similar programs with the stock rom.

Thank you ;)

Frequency changes are dependent on the Kernel. I doubt the Stock kernel will let you do much. Better use Trickster Mod.

@Perseus71 If you want to add info for the Moto G Google Play Edition to the OP, here is all the relevant stuff:

1. It's XT1032, international GSM edition with no support for the 1700 MHz AWS band.
2. The bootloader is unlockable with the standard "fastboot oem unlock" just like all Nexus and GPE devices. It does not require an unlock key or anything funky like that.
3. Currently there are no custom recoveries available as the current ones for the retail Moto G won't boot on the GPE variant. After talking a1Pha about it, he seems to think we're going to have to wait until Motorola drops kernel source before we can get a CWM or TWRP build that will boot on the GPE variant. See this thread for more discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617087
4. Once unlocked, the bootloader cannot be re-locked unless you flash signed system images, which Motorola has not (yet) made available.
5. There are no working root methods at this time since there are no custom recoveries and non-recovery methods like superboot don't boot on the GPE variant.

If you have any other questions about it, I'll be happy to assist.

Thanks, I will certainly add this information. It was my impression that Motorola allowed Rooting via their Developer program for this device. Is that not the case ?

Add far as I can see there isn't a single mention of the Moto G GPE anywhere on Motorola's developer pages. It's a brand new device though. It may be a few weeks still.

I checked and came to the same conclusion. I believe Moto G as a device is pretty young. That could be additional factor. But given the extent of its popularity, I am sure, Motorola will pay heed.

P.S. I have added information you had provided.

Awesome. The only thing I would say is that the GPE is available in both 8 and 16GB versions. I have a 16GB.

Question though, is there a way to try and flash root injected Stock firmware ?
Well if you're talking about something like Superboot, it won't boot on the GPE. If you're saying flash the retail ROMs, then that kind of defeats the purpose of a Google Play Edition. :)

Nope. I meant Stock Firmwares from Motorola, such as here. Can it be edited to inject Root ?

There is no stock firmware available for the Google Play Edition yet. If there was, you might be able to grab a copy and inject root, but we'd actually need the firmware first.

There is something on debloating the device?
There's some discussion on the Q&A Thread for this.

What I linked Earlier was said to be compatible for the Play edition. Is this not so ? That page lists XT1032.
