great job, would also like to participate

Hi,
first of all, amazing job on being the only one in the world to do what sony didn't think of doing.
please send me your demo if possible, i would love to test it.
also, i understand you thought about DLNA support. have you thought about somehow adding external connection from the internet to the app? (maybe through an app on a smart-phone that sends messages).
the thing which to me would make the sony tablet s completely awesome is if i could use it when i'm on my way home and open the air-conditioner, or start music before i get home.

thanks and keep up the good work,
Itay

would love to get invlolved

Hi
I've been following this for some time now and so glad to see the progress you are making. personally would be happy to pay for a final product as my Sony S is gathering dust, like many people, i bought it for the remote function to replace an ageing Pronto. Very disappointed with the lack of function and on going commitment from Sony! I'd love to share in the testing of your app if that's at all possible. keep it up....:good:

would like to participate, too

I have followed discussions for a while as well and hoped for release in play store soon. As testing seems to go on for some more time , l might as well participate and contribute to improve the program?
I bought the tablet s a month ago believing sony's advertisements for their remote app and was very disapointed like all of you. However, i do not consider selling it as it can serve for many other good things. The main purpose has failed so far and my wife starts to tease me about my not fullfilled promise to provide an easy way to let her control the extensive home theatre system. So far...

Hi all! Havent heard from einschnaehkee as of yet. Just wanted to tell you all that, having tested the app, you can be guarenteed that there isn't a better one than this one anywhere out there. Hold onto this thread. I expect that he'll be here soon, hopefully with a better app than before!

Hey, you should make as much money as possible! Don't discount your hard work. I would like to be a beta tester... please PM me. And I will still pay for the final product!

Here are a couple of suggestions without even having seen the beta:

1. Change the name. Looks too much like AnalRemote. :p. Sorry, but it does!
2. Not sure if your custom remote feature does this, I hate in the Sony app that you can't mix buttons from different remotes on the same screen, i.e. volume control from receiver with channel changing from DVR together on the same screen.
3. Love the thought of integrated DLNA!
4. Are you using the code/device database from the Sony app? Does this mean that a user would have to set up their devices in the Sony app and then import into yours, or is that just to ease transition from the Sony app to yours and you'll have a setup method in your app that draws from predefined codes for setting up new devices?

Can't contribute any more until I actually check it out. I'd like to replace my aging harmony with something like this!

Hi Kevin, i had the chance to play around with the app therefore some remarks -

1. true
2. working definatly / working with the sony app too - you just have to learn custim ir codes from original hardware
3. really nice, but i'm not sure if thats a much too complex project ...
4. it receives the keys from the sony app when importing new devices - but without key-label and kind of unpredictable how much remotes for a type of device get pulled. I think learning the keys directly is quicker in the current state of development :)

a question about two-way remote IR learning

Hi,
after some tries i found out that i can't get the sony tablet s to learn commands of a one-way remote (my air conditioner).
is there some way to trick the sony tablet s into thinking it got the ack from the other side through the code in some way?

thanks,
Itay

For defining makros - a remote key that sends multiple keys at once -, you first need to define a device (or multiple devices) with keys.
Then you define a remote and switch to "Edit" mode (press "E" in action bar).
You'll see all your defined devices in the right sidebar. Click and hold on one key inside a device and drag and drop it inside your remote. Now you have a remote key, that you can drag around and change its size by pinching. If you drag and drop another key from a device inside the newly created remote key, you can create a makro. ;)

Beginning with the next release I'll start to do some video tutorials, so that it will become pretty clear what to do with the app. :)
At first of all thank you! :)

I have the same prob as don't get it how to create / start a macro. I defined remotes and a device, added keys to a device and can modify the icon size but don't know where to start these keys as a macro.

Also I don't understand the function of the button in the upper right corner. If i click it some kind of navigation appears but any button is grey and unclickable. May be this is in context of my first question. :p

Sorry if this seems to be a dumb question but I would be glad if someone can help me.

Finally got and successfully created macros. Search on wrong level. Now it works fine.

I just got the tablet (the original / old one), mainly for the remote feature, but i ran into a problem with one of my remotes that uses a toggle-bit (i.e. sending alternating codes when pressing the same button multiple times in a row, so the same command does not get repeated accidentally) and i could not find a way to get it to work in a satisfactory manner, let alone teach it to the sony app.

so yeah, i got pointed to this thread and everything i read sounds really promising. is there any way to get my hands on the test version?

as you can guess i already have my first suggestion (if this isn't already supported):
it is no problem to fix this with macros (having your initial command followed by some code that has no effect at that moment), but if this app is still in development it would be nice if you'd find a way to support this behavior.

Einschnaehkeee, even you read the French, I will write in (bad) English, like that every body can read my future remark.

Can I have the link to test your beta version of your soft AnIRemote to manage TV, DVD, ... with the Sony Tablet S ?

Best regards from France. ;)

Feedback

Hi einschnaehkeee,

here are my first impressions. I'm quite impressed as your app is finally doing what I had searched for so long. Putting several commands into one activity works fine. Nevertheless you asked for feedback / bucks and here is what I noted:

- I am also owner of a panasonic tv which is not turned on by pushing the starting button but by keeping the button pressed. The tv gets launched. This works fine with the sony app but unfortunately not with yours. I tried two things. 1) to use the button imported from the sony app and keep it pressed and 2) to record the command by keeping the original remote control button pressed. Both does not work. The app keeps sending the command but the tv doesn't start. The red light on the tv is blinking much slower when it's receiving the command is it does while receiving the command of the original remote or Sony app. So I guess the repeating frquency of your app is too slow for my tv.

- If I write in a duration of command in ms, it works fine. But if I start the macro again, it is not doing excactly the same. Example: I put in a duration of some ms for vol+. If I start the macro the tv increases vol of lets say 3 points. If I start the macro again, it increases by for example 5. This is nothing dramatic or important, just noted it.

- I teached the app some commands of my Sony audio receiver which worked perfectly. I tried to do so with my sky satelite receiver (german pay tv) and had much probs. I needed roughly 20 - 30 tries per command and two times it seemed like it had worked (I received the message which is saying command learned), but it did not work. It would be interesting if other people having the same probs with sky receivers.

- I have a suggestion: what do you think of a command (last command of a macro) which can change the function of other buttons. Let. me please explain what I mean: it would be great if I can put the buttons vol+ and vol- onto the remote screen and the function is flexible. If I push the button for "tv only" they are sending commands to the tv as i use the tv's sound, e.g. for watching news. If I start the "movie macro" which is muting the tv and activating my audio receiver it could have also a command which is telling the app that the volume buttons should now work with the audio receiver and not with tv. So the vol buttons should have a default command (tv volume) and alternative command (audio receiver) but not used sequently but alternatively.

I will keep on trying and testing and update if I have more impressions.

this is my opinion about this. we are half way there already.

You have different DEVICES and REMOTES. under REMOTES you can create buttons and it's functions for each activity.
I think that is an idea or having that options.

But, to have exactly what you want, selecting REMOTE should act as an macro. i.e. if you select Remote "movie" it should start tv, set it to needed input, turn on audio receiver ... and set remote button layout and functionality for that activity as it does now..

a little O.T.
There has not been anything new here for a long time. I would like this project to keep going on. It is a great app, a great functionality Sony "forgot" to give us and it is so close to "finish line". It would be a pity if it is not finished.
and thanks for all that is done until now.
and please don't understand this as some kind of pressure or asking for ETA. it is just giving support to this great project.

Hey guys,

I know I haven't given a ping for a longer time now, but don't worry I'm working on it and I hope all of you will be pleased with the next update.
It will include a small Java application with which you can import your tablet data and create makros, keys, etc. in a more convenient way. Then export it to your tablet and you're ready to go. :) It's pretty much done now, just some small fixes need to be done.
I'll post an update of the new features and fixes soon (perhaps inside a new thread), so stay tuned.

And I will also answer every question pilled up until now and post an overdue tutorial video. :D

I'll keep in touch with you. ;)

lol nah I don't think it's worth donating, at least not yet. ;)

I really haven't thought about the confusion the name "AnIRemote" would bring up, at least not something as far-fetched as "anal" lol.
A name change wouldn't be bad, I guess. :p

Guys, what do you think about "SonIRemote"? There's "Sony" in it to indicate that the app is for a Sony device, as well as "IR", as well as "Remote".

these are all great news.

I think you should open a new thread for your app.

sonIRemote is a nice play of words but I think you should rather put something of yours instead of sony. just in case you decide to make it work with other tablets :) it's good enough for that.

I cant wait for the next release. i'd be completely happy with the functionality it has right now (adding the obviously missing features like deleting ;) ).
the one thing i found kind of annoying was that it was pretty easy to accidentally press one button when setting up a remote. but that had also to do with the limited controls you had in this version i think.

as for the name, well... IRemote is beyond question i guess!? :silly:
how about: Premote - the premium remote app....
