Had that issue as well, simple fix for me was downloading "Superuser Updater" in the market then running it. It will force close then you will have old superuser back. Then update Superuser in the market and all will be good.
You can also fix su by getting the latest binary from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and either replace it manually, or just flash it in recovery after you update /system.

hmmm, this is a development thread. I think building falls under that. I don't have the xda rules memorized, but the knowledge I've gained in this thread alone is amazing. I'm very grateful for those who are willing to help someone who wants to learn, like myself.
I think what he's saying is that not wanting to hear silly questions about things that don't work or when will they work is not a good reason to withhold builds, as you will get silly questions about this or that no matter what. In addition, there are those of us who would love to see what's new but just can't build for one reason or another (time or resources), as I and Jasper_Ward stated earlier.

Very appreciated sir!
Sure.

Dont count on anything tho, this is my first ICS compile (but have done Froyo and GB in the past)

Also, to anyone who does dl this build i possibly will post, pm me if you have questions or anything, dont mess up this thread. This is for dalingrins + fattires stuff, not mine. And no "oh my gosh my ____ isnt working!" in the thread either.

I'd get permission from them first. Last thing we need is to piss them off and close their repo's so no one can compile
I just PMed them, if they say no sorry guys I wont post it. Their hardwork is way better than a build.

I've been asking people during this rapid-development phase not to post zips in order to encourage others to learn to build themselves... so far it's been super successful with lots and lots of people who I think otherwise wouldn't have even tried have been able to do it.

There has been some good discussion about this request-- obviously some people who aren't able to build (even for time or technical reasons) don't like it, but it's not something that will be a long-term request or anything. Just a little extra-incentive to push a few people over the edge to learn. I really think it makes a difference when people discover for themselves that they CAN build an OS from scratch-- even if by following directions they familiarize themselves with the process.

Very soon I'll have a build with sound to show. But until then, I'd appreciate if you'd hold off.

Thanks!

Sounds great, thanks for sharing, fattire, and thanks for all your work. Looking forward to it!

Quick question I'm working remote from the pc I'm trying to setup to build on and well my nook is with my and I can't connect it to the build machine to complete the below portion of the setup instructions is there a work around ?

Next, install the proprietary files per the original instructions and run the ./setup-makefiles.sh script in android/system/device/bn/encore. (if that doesn’t work for some reason, try typing add_lunch_combo cm_encore-userdebug manually.)

Copy proprietary files

NOTE: This only needs done the first time you build. If you have already done these steps, you may skip to Download RomManager.
You will need to have a Encore with a working copy of CyanogenMod install and ADB working on the computer. This script will copy the proprietary files from the device.
Connect the device to the computer and ensure that ADB is working properly.
cd ~/android/system/device/bn/encore/
./extract-files.sh

Not unless you can find those proprietary files somewhere else. Not sure where though

Since this post was originally made, there have been some updates to the build instructions. While this method should still work, there is, I think, something better.

I'd like to share a little script I wrote to automate the sync/build/package cycle for myself... as if FatTire's tutorial weren't easy enough already :p

It's designed for the latest stable Ubuntu (11.10), though it might work with Debian as well (or even other distros, if you have all the prerequisites already installed). Any brave souls willing to try? :)

I know you're impatient to get started, but FatTire's tutorial is awesome. Read it so you understand what you are doing. My script also contains a little guide, so check it out. I haven't had much opportunity to test this script because it takes so much time to start from scratch, so please help me out! As of now, I have completed two full builds this way, as well as a few incremental updates. Feel free to modify the MIT-licensed script. There are two time-consuming steps (4 and 6), so I'd recommend planning accordingly. Also make sure you have plenty of space on your disk; my working directory currently contains about 23GB. In a nutshell:

0. If you already have a working build environment (with ~/bin and ~/android), you could also use this Makefile. Please see the quickstart section within. Otherwise, you could start from scratch as follows:

1. Make a folder for all your Android-building needs, and drop this text file in there, named Makefile (with no extension). Then open your favorite terminal app and navigate to that folder.

2. If you don't have any of the tools installed yet, and you're on Ubuntu, do this:
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo make apt
3. Initialize your working directory:
Code:
make init
4. Fetch the source code:
Code:
make sync
nb: It might take a while to fetch ~5.7GB of code off the Internet, depending on your connection. It might also hang, in which case you gotta stop the process (press ctrl+\) and retry until you have everything. When you retry, you might want to do `make sync J=4` to reduce the concurrency. If it then complains about corrupt repositories ("not a repository"), you must delete the corrupt repositories and retry. You'd know it's frozen if "Fetching projects" does not progress for a minute or so.

5. Plug in your Nook via USB, boot into CM7, and make sure debugging is enabled... to get some vendor-specific files (proprietary bits from B&N and prebuilt bits from CyanogenMod):
Code:
make vendor
6a. At this point, you have a choice. Either make bacon, or continue below.

6b. Build that stuff:
Code:
make build
This takes a while, depending on your hardware... perhaps a few hours. It's best to do this step overnight. When it's done, you could sync directly to your device, or continue!

7. Save a snapshot for later:
Code:
make snapshot
This is actually required for the next step. But don't worry: snapshots are incremental, so they don't use too much space; and it's safe to remove any snapshot except "current".

8. Package it up:
Code:
make package CLEAN=1
Check the snapshots directory for your shiny new update.zip :D
Please don't distribute your update.zip packages, until FatTire gives us the green light. He wants us to learn how to build Android for ourselves.

9. It's even easier to keep your source up-to-date:
Code:
make sync
make build
make snapshot
make package CLEAN=1
... and don't forget to thank FatTire for his work, which made this possible :D

If you need help, look for Pinako on Freenode.

You could extract those files using the nearest computer, and send them over to your build server. I made myself a little archive of proprietary files so I could easily unpack them into my project when necessary, without hooking up the device.
