... But I believe that Androidmeda and Rashed97 set up the device tree(s) (including p509) to build for old baseband.
I do not think so. I have always had to copy the old baseband (three files) to system/lib after flashing any of these ROMs. (There is a flashable obb fix around as well.)

If I can remember the correct process for P5XX was to upgrade from stock Froyo to stock gingerbread then change baseband and then custom recovery, root and custom roms. Hole process was written in a basic P500 thread here in XDA.

Depends, I got new bb and gingerbread all in one flash (emergency KDZ flash, using LG tools). But flashing only the /system ROM and boot image will not change the bb.

So you flashed p509 and p505 roms? P500 roms are definitely always built for new bb. But...
I guess I'm gonna have to download all of them, so we can be sure.
Used only P500-built ROMs. Had heard that P509 ROMs might be using old baseband but never tried them

but that required a windows machine and using LG's software. Best way to brick a phone I know of.

Possibly these libraries ("use new bb rom zip" ) are insufficient to use for kk based ROMs. Could try overwriting the libs in p505 roms using the versions from p506 or p509. If that doesn't work, then something else is wrong.
I have been using these three successfully through current 4.4.4

THANKS!!!

Just catching up on the thread, and y'all's discussion reminded me of what my device needs. I have a P505, but I remember now that I never got the BB update, so to get working graphics, and BB< I need P506 ROMs. I was thinking that the P506 was the one that got the update, and not the P505, until I read over this thread, and saw that @ibub mentioned opening up the zips to compare BB files, and said that the P500 and P505 seemed to both be new BB. This will it a lot easier to test things!!

In other news, @mohammadjj sent me this in a pm today:
Hi
thanks for this rom , but I have 2 problem with this .
1. statusbar not work , dont show any notification , I missed my received notifications .
2. lock screen not work.
is there any way for fix this ?
Has onyone else experienced any of these symptoms?

Is there no TWRP 2.8.1+ for the P500?
Starting from that version, none of the zips on the website have any images in them, just the commands to flash them.
I'm guessing that this was the cause of some people thinking that the TWRP for their device is corrupted.
It's not corrupted, it's just not there.

@HardLight has recently posted twrp 2.8.7.0 (unofficial) on his thread. But it's os2sd version.

Thanks, however at the moment I don't have a free MicroSD card, so I was talking about the ordinary TWRP, not the OS2SD one.
I'm currently using a 4GB MicroSD card, and soon I'll be limited to a 2GB one, hopefully I'll be able to use my 8GB one.
However, after I recieve my credit card, I intend to buy from MyMemory a card or two.

But does anyone know why there no "normal" TWRP images starting from 2.8.1?
Perhaps someone can try building it and post the results here?

P500 is legacy device so official Twrp support have been dropped long time ago. It would be surprise if even previous versions from https://dl.twrp.me/p500/ could work properly as there are many things changed in device specific repos of every rom.
You should better relay particular recovery posted in each rom description. Higher version number means nothing if older does the same job.
Also this rom is very outdated so if you have decent microsd card you could try os2sd.
