EDIT: information below is obsolete. Please check the last few pages of the topic for recent development progress.

What is known:

Jetstream uses MSM8x60 processor (is this same as msm8660?)

What we need to know:

What GPU.
Other similar HTC devices running on the MSM8x60.
Stable and most developed kernel compiled from source.
Stable HC Rom for donor Rom.
Bluetooth SoC
WiFi SoC
GPS SoC

HC kernel source base address (if I compile my own kernel from HC sources)

More useful info you guys can come up with.

I am from the HTC Flyer forums, and am interested in getting ICS onto the Jetstream, although I don't have the device myself. For now this thread will serve as a base for discussing about ICS, until the actual development can start.

This thread is NOT for saying thanks 'little guy', hopes, general ranting about HTC or flamefights.

I need some pieces of info now, so that we can start doing stuff. I need some good internet trawlers for this to work,so anyone who can help please do, as I have time constraints due to developing for the Flyer all while having to stay at the top of my class.

Options in getting ICS:

Porting (preffered for now)
Building from Source

I prefer porting for now as building from source will be difficult as a GB kernel source is not present unlike the Flyer.

What I know:

Jetstream uses MSM8x60 processor (is this same as msm8660?)

Hi,

Nice to see you get started. Well this is what I could gather.

1. Msm8x60 processor is a series of processors which has variants - Msm8260 and msm8660. Jetstream uses a variant called APQ8060. It's used by HTC Vivid, Samsung Galaxy Tab LTE, SGS II (SGH T989), HP Touchpad, Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, LG Nitro HD, Le Pan II.
2. It's using an Adreno 220 GPU as far as I could gather
3. DoomKernel is the only kernel I gather out here. It works well but some users have faced glitches on it with the overclocking and voltage changing settings.
4. I feel galaxy task 650 v2 is the most stable rom-I did face problems with v3. Osimood also seems to work well but haven't had more than 3 days with it running so can't comment on stability.
5. The kernel source base addresses I think were posted elsewhere. Will check and get back.
6. I don't know how to check out the SoC things. If you can direct me what I must do to check them, I will and get back asap. Even the kernel source base address if any way I can check, do guide and it will be done.

If any of the above information is wrong, I am sorry and will try to correct it as soon as I learn of the mistake.

While doing some research about phones, came across an interesting fact. The HTC One S has very very similar specs as the Jetstream. It runs on a Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon processor and runs GPU of 225 Adreno. I think only the GPU is different as Jetstream is on the Adreno 220 GPU. Could this be useful in helping us port ICS to the Jetstream? Of course, no pen and screen resolution vary - else they seem very similar.

OK, I've checked out the Vivid and know about the One S, but for now, I am going with a Vivid ROM. As I don't have a Jetstream, I'll be needing a someone's Ubuntu box (someone who has developed/cooked etc. before hopefully) with Remote Access and the Jetstream connected via usb.

I need the following specs on your computer(if anyone is willing):

Atleast Dual-Core CPU (Quad-Core preferred)
Atleast 2GB RAM
About 5 GB of free space
Ubuntu 64bit (12.04 preffered)
Cross-compile toolchain installed(but OK if you don't have it);)
Minimum 1MB/s Internet speed
Unlimited Internet usage preferred, but 2GB usage reqd. minimum
Jetstream attached via USB

If you guys do have a computer matching these specs, PM me or write here. Hopefully we will be able to get something out of it.

Sorry!

I would definitely offer but I don't have a pc to match even the minimum config. You planning on getting a Jetstream by any chance?

Thanks for your offer, what PC specs. do you have?

I don't want to get a Jetstream ATM, and the Jetstream doesn't seem to be a popular device (almost no replies on this thread, no bounty, etc) and I can only get a Jetstream if someone gifts/sends/etc. it to me.

Can't blame you for not wanting to get one, but there is a bounty out for ICS as is listed here.

Mine is a P4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM, WinXP. I guess Ubuntu will work but will have to get it. Hard disk and internet not a problem.

And the ICS bounty has reached a $350 mark. You get a refurbished Jestream for $299.99 at http://www.all4cellular.com/product/htc-jetstream-32gb-refurbished.html if you interested in taking up the bounty. They send it with a shiping charge of $41 off. In all comes to $341.54. So you interested? Also, only drawback from that site is no scribe pen-but as you have a Flyer, the same pen will work.

Thanks for the advice. If you people want me to carry on the work, someone will need to collect the bounty, buy the Jetstream and ship it to my address as I am a tad inconvenienced without PayPal,etc. being 13 and all.

Also, I'll feel bad if I do get the Jetstream and can't manage to get ICS on it, as its a long and complex process, and end up disappointing you guys or something like Drew Garen in the Flyer forums who got a free Flyer and was in fact a scammer.

Oh ok. I will do 1 thing. If you don't get someone by the 24th, I will try arranging for something for the system. I got an exam on 24th and after that I would be able to spare time and try getting something set up for you. Hope that would be acceptable. If someone else can do it before that well and good. Regarding bounty etc, if you get it working on the Jetstream, then perhaps someone would be able to do it for you. I just realised that there is post saying bouty would be given after ics is working.

Another question if you don't.mind. a user has a S-OFF device. I was wondering if we could use his device as a model and try getting s off for the others? Because in my understanding, having s off would be an advantage and it would surely speed things up for development. Would such a thing be possible.

Thanks! Hopefully you can get me the Jetstream. I don't need the bounty/donation or anything, just the device.

About the S-OFF device, that guy doesn't have it anymore, though it would help for ICS . A ENG Hboot or factory S-OFF is not very useful for getting S-OFF on factory locked devices, except for perhaps hard flashing(JTAG) the hboots onto the target device.

I know he does have it. Had PMed him a while back and he did. Will confirm in any case still. Also, my Jetstream is sim unlocked. And I meant that I will be able to set up the system with the uplink and stuff after the 14th - just in case you misunderstood that i will be able to get you a device without the bounty-sorry. The bounty will cover a device for you if you manage to get ics running on the jetstream.

Will PM the guy with an S-OFF device and get back to you with that.

Development started!

So not to get your hopes up or anything but, development has started!
I provided mhkabir98 de needed Ubuntu box, and unlock jetstream.
We are currently trying to port a Vivid ICS rom to the Jetstream and get it booting using Doomlord's kernel.

AS I said, don't get your hopes up this is VERY early stage..
But mhkabir98 seems capable enough with his Flyer ICS rom.
And the ubuntu box + jetstream are good enough ;)

Great news! Just saw an ics asus today..got me jealous.
Just one request if I may, the doomlord kernel is known as problematic, for some of us it crashes the device. If its possible, I would ask to avoid using it, or trying to fix the known issues.
Hopefully this will go well. Goodluck, and thanks.

We are first trying to get it to boot,
After this we will focus on getting everything else to work,
When everything works we will try to get it as stable as possible
We are first trying the DooMLord kernel, and if that works we will ofcourse also try the Stock kernel.

We can't say for sure if everything will work out as we intend, but we will try our bests, it's my first time at rom building so pklease have patience.

Thanks for your co-operation!
