DeX with USB-C HDMI Adapter

Late to the party here, but I got the DeX, because I loved the idea. Though I don't have an HDMI monitor - only USB-C ones... problem is, the Dex doesn't recognizes them. Any idea for a fix?
I even bought the Samsung USB-C to HDMI converter - hoping to put in the HDMI there, and then connect the USB-C to the monitor's input. But the display doens't recognize any signal.

Connecting the USB-C out of the Dex (that's usually for the charging) also doesn't work. Tried some other more crazy options (i.e. HDMI to Mini-Display to USB-C), but to no avail.

I'm really a bit stunned that Samsung didn't think of that, even though they're pushing for USB-C type monitors too. And I bet it's just some small software fix that it would recognize this.

You can also use an Asrock Thunderbolt 3 AIC - on the condition that it detects a PCIe signal from any computer, supported or unsupported. The Gigabyte GC-ALPINE RIDGE AIC will only work with the GPIO header attached - so it seems it has more stringent checks. The Asus ThunderboltEX3 is unknown. Too expensive for a card with only a single port for me to buy and test.

Have fun converting from HDMI to DisplayPort. The silly thing is that the signal from the phone is DisplayPort, and yet Samsung pay HDMI royalties and have an IC that converts the signal, while adding another point of failure and complexity. HDMI is an evil for stupid people with televisions that needs to be dropped.

I tested my s8 plus with a dell wd15 Usb c dock. All the Usb ports worked. And I could use dp, HDMI, or vga to Mirror the screen. The audio jacks worked too. I think the Ethernet worked too. I was unable to get anything close to full screen since it would just Mirror the screen portrait or landscape. I was testing on a crappy dell 15 inch pc monitor though. I'm going to see if I can find any additional settings tomorrow at work.

In any case you should see screen mirroring when you connect an external screen. If it doesn't work, then your adapter might be faulty...

This one didn't work with my S8, only screen mirroring.

Now it works for me with the new pie update :laugh:
