Just noticed my build number is SQ1D.211205.016.A1
The 9to5google article suggests this is for ROW. I'm UK so looks like I've been pushed the wrong one 😞 Would that cause poor cell reception?

Warning: it died for me after update.
Rough translation: "Failed to load Android system. Data possibly damaged. If you'll see this message again try to reset device and remove all user data.
How it works: it loads android at first, but when I unlock it starts to reboot and loads into this screen.
Available buttons:
1) try again
2) reset settings
Haven't tried 2nd yet, wanna save my photos and other data first somehow

UPD: well, it doesn't work even after picking "settings reset". Any idea what should I do?
UPD1: after 1 more reset it works, I think. It also offered to restore my 6h ago backup from google cloud. "Finishing setup" still goes, probably I'll get my photos back, but I don't see them yet.

There's an incredible amount of confusion out there on this topic but I think you were pushed the right one if you have an unlocked phone purchased from Google.

I'm in the U.S., on Verizon but bought the phone from Google. A Google rep -- through the in-phone chat support and after escalation to a "specialist" -- confirmed that the 017 build is only for phones purchased from a carrier, and that 016.A1 is the global unlocked build for phones bought from Google.

By extension, the 016.A4 build is only for phones purchased from European carriers.

This tracks with anecdotal reports on reddit and elsewhere of American and European users receiving the 016.A1 build.

Oh gawd,

I've just sideloaded 016.A4 onto UK google purchased pixel 6. I have no idea what was on there before - d'oh

What are the ramifications of this??

It seems fine so far. 5G signal is better. FP reader is better. battery life seems worse but that will hopefully settle.

Should I panic??

You're fine. I did the U.S. equivalent of this -- sideloaded 017 onto a U.S. google purchased P6. It was fine -- no problems at all.

I was able to sideload 016.A1 over 017. You could try to sideload 016.A1 over 016.A4, or you could wait until January and just put yourself on the right image then.

I have a unlocked Google purchased phone on AT&T. I sideloaded .017 cause that made sense to me. Everything seems fine except maybe I'm on 5G e more than I was before. That said speed is fine with the lastest being 120 down.

I have a unlocked P6 and use verizon and sideloaded the 017 version thinking it was for all US carriers. So is the 016.A1 version the one I should be using then?

I did the same as you. But then, after reading a lot of conflicting information, I contacted google support, the chat rep escalated it, and I was eventually told that 016.A1 is for unlocked phones and 017 is for phones bought from carriers.

Note that the google support post was edited to show similar information, after originally saying that 016.A1 was for Canada and Taiwan only.

That said, both 016.A1 and 017 have worked perfectly fine for me. Unlocked Pixel 6 being used on VZW.

Looks like it doesn't matter. I just switched from .017 to .016A1 - no difference except the build number in settings.

I just sideloaded the 016.A1 and so far so good. Fingers crossed

I'm on Verizon too with a unlocked P6 bought from Best Buy and I sideloaded 017. Mostly seems okay but battery life is way worse so far. Might try A1 to see if it's any better. Wonder why they didn't release a Verizon version this time?
