I usually get 4 to 4.5 hrs SOT when I'm in the office and not using wifi.

But when I'm at home, I'm getting 5.5 to 6 hrs SOT since I'm using the wifi.

Could also be the apps that you guys are using? Background syncing, notifications refresh, etc.
this might actually be the reason, can greenify help me with that?

Now a bit of debloat and Oreo i´m pleased for performance. But out of the box it wasn´t what i did imagine.

Coming from OP3T (6months), OP5 (4months) and also IP7+ and Mate 10 for 1month I also felt that performance of s8+ is a bit sluggish, but BatMan rom, debloat, few tweaks and it feels OK now, although I do see some lag in random spots, but its nothing major. All in all samsung UI looks so much better than that of Oxygen OS, for example, so those little f-ups/lags you do get here and there are easy to live with. Oxygen OS has no identit - its fast and smooth, but the UI/feels dull and boring..op3t/op5 camera is only OK with still objects and its portrait mode is as good as it gets..everything else is blurry and unfocused..

Which Oreo ROM do you use on your s8+? Can you flash oreo based rom through twrp and then comeback to a nougat rom through twrp (nandroid backup)?

Very good sum up, like it was coming from my mouth. I agree all your claims.
I use renovates R30 now. Very stable beta. If I didn't know this is beta I couldn't tell.
If you have SD-card I thing it is ok to try Oreo without losing anything. Nandroid backup to SD-card and wipe everything. Flash and good to go.
There are some guides to copy your data folder to SD-card and after flashing copy it back. So you don't lose "anything".

I bought it in May and the S8+ was my best android phone ever...

suddenly, after an october update, maybe aqh3, the phone started to slow down a little bit but the worst was my SOT.

the SOT moved from 7-8 Hrs with 30h total endurance to a misarable 3-4 Hrs, without a reason...

I've tried to return to the very first stock rom, but nothing works...

So yeah. Now a days I regret...

S8+ out of the box is not the best performance, but with a few tweaks its stay good.
Lag much less than s7edge.
What do you think about the mate 10?
Its much better in performance.

Mate 10 - although i absolutelly loved that 16:9 almost bezeless 6inch screen size wise (color reproduction is quite awful..not even close to best in class lcd screens like the one on iphone 7p for instance), but I could not really get used to that tiny 3 in 1 home button (its just too small..too many misses on it (like swipe to get recents was successful 3 out of 5 times)..on screen button for me are ok only if u can hide them like on s8) + the camera on mate 10 at Auto (mode that should be the most refined since majority of users will judge camera performance by its auto mode) was a hit and miss - in short, it could get you the most amazing shot, but then again a lot of stuff out of it was just too artificial (oversharpened, overexposed images + skin tones are all pale). Plus there were few other minor things I disliked but probably no twrp no custom rom support did it for me..meaning that I had to move away from it..

P.s. Its not the easiest of devices (mate 10) to hold. I was ok, but when I was giving it to other for tests, they found it to be too fat to comfortably hold although its actual lenght is one of the shortest outthere for phones in 5,5-6inch category..

P.s.2. ram management on mate 10 was super-horrible in my tests..

Samsung Here I Come.... Again. Apple Sorry But No Contest!

I use both daily (personal=S8; work=iPhone 7). I would never purchase an iPhone as my personal. No contest.
I had a galaxy s3, s5, then s7. I then decided I needed to try apples iPhone 7 Plus. Nice phone but android is where my heart will always lie I’ve found out. Apple doesn’t let you try before you commit to an app, and you can only get the apps in the App Store if not jailbroken. I miss android for many more reasons than I like Apple so tomorrow I shall return to android. Galaxy S8+ here I come!

How do the edges affect functionality, like do you find you are accidentally launching things, changing screens, or accidentally doing things due to the screen edges and phone design? Also is it hard to find good functional protective cases for the S8+ that don’t hinder use or screen accessibility?

Mate 10 pro is a little bit better with 18/9 ratio.
But is missing the jack and sdcard, so its dead for me..
Samsung and LG until know they offer all the features, Samsung with the best screen, for i think there is not other option, only s8 plus or note8. And i need big for my work.
Thanks.

mate 10 pro is just stupid IMO..lower resolution than non-pro mate 10, no headphone jack, no sd card..

I am actually not a fan of this 18:9 / 18:9.5 trend which started this year, but it seems it's here to stay and considering all pros and cons if screen aspect ratio 18:9/18:9.5 is OK for you than Samsung with its S8/S8+/Note8 are the best in the game in my opinion because:
  • their software allows you to fill out the screen when watching video contet (zoom in) although you do end up loosing a bit of the material due to zoom-ins +
  • you have the ability to hide the nav bar + the nav itself looks very slick and it blends in very well with everything else in Samsung UI. <--all in all, Sammy's nav bar has it's own slim fit style, all other android Nav bars (on screen buttons are outdated and look to bulky)
  • you get the best phone screen in the market, period!

With mate 10 (16:9 almost 6inches and tiniest of bezels) which I sold about 3 weeks after buying it, I kind of understood why most of phone producing companies are going for this taller 18:9/18:9.5 screens instead of trying to squeeze out more inches in 16:9 frame.

Mate 10 seemed so awesome on paper -> 16:9, almost 6inches, in shorter body than phablets like note8, iphone+ plus a home button with fingerprint reader, and 3 way button (home - hold, recents - swipe, back - tap), but in real life its not very comfortable to hold and to use. Home button is just too tiny and interacting with it can be very annoying since you are very unlikely to get the result you wished for without repeating the gesture.

And about the LG v30, i wanted one to try it, it seems a pretty good package, only front camera is a disappointment, but here lg sales are really bad. Not sign of lg yet.
Im still considering note 7 one of the best phones.

Not even a little bit. I love almost everything about this phone. My two complaints:

1) I wish I could root it and put pure Android on it without bloat.
2) I wish it was a little more resilient. It does not fare well in drop tests.
Now that I'm about six months into owning this I have a couple of reservations.

I broke the screen. I am the most careful person with phones. I've owned a LOT of them since smart phones first started and I've never scratched or broken one... until now. And it was a minor bump! But I have a major crack in it. I don't have insurance because I never break phones! LOL. The digitizer is still working so I'm just going to bear it. I'm on Sprint so I can get a new one in May I think.

I like Samsung phones. They really put a lot of thought into the hardware and make a top notch device. Then they have to force the Samsung software garbage on you. From Bixby to RAM management to signing into their network for app updates and such... I really hate that. And the solution to fix it is to give a 3rd party app some pretty heavy duty access to rights on your device.

In May I don't know what I'm going to do. If the S9 is out I am definitely going to have reservations about getting it. As much as I love the S8+ I don't know if it's worth it.

Can't I just put a new Snapdragon processor and updated camera in my Nexus 6? I'm still going to call that the best device I've ever owned.

I just picked up a S8+ mint condition. Been an HTC user, and have a HTC 10 currently. Dev support on that device hands down, you can't beat. I know I'm going to be let down and have a big learning curve for what it takes to root and get a custom rom. Need to take some time to read on the steps/process compared to HTC and S-Off, loading firmware, TWRP and then flashing ROMs etc. I know the process so well and have done some Dev work on it, maybe I'm going to regret it. The Samsung seems to be a bear to get this functioning on, and the guides are a bit confusing at this point, likely due to my complete lack of knowledge of the devices.

I've got a 955U I'm going to run on Cricket...seems like the steps using Bootloop/Failsafe.Odin tools etc to root/get a custom Rom are straight forward though. Then flashing upgraded firmware if/when it comes out. It's all a foreign language to me right now.

Really just want to get away from HTC's bland lack of innovation and very minimal upgrades the past 4yrs with each new phone. They have turned into Apple...the HTC 7-8 are about the same phone as the 10. Plus I want a larger useable screen without actually the device being larger in my hands. Samsung has done this with S8+ along with other vendors now. HTC is still sticking with the thick bezel top/bottom/sides...but I love a front fingerprint scanner function. And customizations are second to none like I mentioned. Anyway...will see!

Will provide more feedback when it arrives tomorrow. I would really like to grab the new Note, but any phone that cost me over $600...not gonna happen. The prices are just getting absurd lately with Apple X, HTC, Samsung etc..flagship devices. Wait 12-18 months then I upgrade to a used/mint one and sell my old one.

Thanks guys.

Got a G955F (Exynos) a week ago, replacing my OnePlus 3.

The OnePlus 3 was (and still is, sold it to my roommate, he upgraded from some 2014 Galaxy Grand Neo or some s#%t like that :D ) an awful lot of phone for the money, especially with the AOSPA running it. Fast as hell, charging also fast as hell, and the thing made nice photos with the ported Google cam.

I wanted to switch because my previous phone was the Note 3, and after a year and a half with the OP3, I became... bored with it. First world problems. My issue was, using it one handed couldn't be done easily, no one handed mode, and couldn't use it two handed easily, too small for that. :D

So I went looking for a replacement. My first choice was the Mate 10 Pro, having Project Treble out of the box, that machine learning chip, dual cam, but after a week back and forth with my carrier, units not available, got sick of it all, and last Friday just barricaded an employee of my carrier in the store, dead set on not leaving without a new phone, but since the Mate 10 Pro was so elusive, I got the S8 Plus. Bigger (and better) screen than the Pro, thought performance on a 10nm Exynos would be good, microSD slot, headphone jack (!!!), wireless charging. Fast charging on the S8+ isn't as fast as the Mate's (I presume), I got spoiled by the OP3's stupidly fast Dash charge, the S8+ feels like a slow trickler in comparison. :D

I don't regret it, despite the fact I still haven't tripped knox and flashed the Oreo beta, which is a first for me. :D
1. Battery life. Somehow, despite the heavier feel of TouchWiz, despite the giant Quad HD+ screen, Samsung somehow manage to get me better longevity than the OP3 did. Screw me if I know how they pulled it off, but kudos for it.
4/10. (Had a ZeroLemon 10000 mAh unit on my Note 3, and until phones start lasting as much as the Note 3 did with the ZeroLemon, that grade will stay that way.)
2. Cameras... now this is a mixed bag. S8+ front camera has autofocus, 8 MP unit like the OP3, but the images are pathetically ugly for some reason. Lots of noise, off colors, and that beautification "feature" makes all of the above way worse. Google's cam barely makes better photos with it. Yes, my mug ain't exactly pretty, but the OP3's selfies were more realistic, while this cam can make images of my face that are a nightmare fuel.
The main camera, however... I think I like it, though I still haven't tested it properly. Low light shots are definitely better that the OP3's, but in daylight, with the Google cam, the OP3 delivered some SICK shots. Still have to test if the S8+ can deliver that too.
Front cam 4/10.
Rear cam 8/10 (so far).
3. The aforementioned screen... Another mixed bag. I like the size of it and the resolution, my first QHD phone. I'm running it in Basic mode, the OP3 spoiled me for sRGB, can't stand Adaptive display, ridiculously oversaturated. :D Though maybe if I could get used to it... I am mentioning that because at work we have an iPhone X unit, also AMOLED panel, it has the vivid colors, but they're NOT over the top somehow, and puts the Basic mode on the S8+ to shame.
Then again, I haven't played around to calibrate it myself, maybe I'd be able to reproduce what I found on the iPhone... aaaaaaand, while still writing this post, I tested out the AMOLED Photo mode, and I think it's kind of what I found on the iPhone. Scratch my previous complaints. :D :D :D
9.5/10.
4. Performance. Having a Note 3 for 2 years, I know of TouchWiz lag, and it's way lower on this device. Still the occasional hiccup, but I got used to the OP3's hyperspeed mode, and at times it looked like the apps themselves couldn't catch up to the phone, and I have the same feel here too, sometimes. Other times it's pure lag, but not something that would make me flip.
9/10, since performance throughout and within apps is close to the OP3.
5. Design. Yes, the thing looks sleek, and since I wanna keep it that way, slapped a case and a glass screen protector on it. This is the least important part for me, as long as build quality is on point (and it's so on point I can't say a thing <3), and design is hidden behind protection anyway.
Of course, getting used to the stupid fast unlock with fingerprint on the OP3 makes me hate the position of said reader on this phone, but I can live with it, thanks to the iris scanner.
10/10 for build quality, maybe 6/10 for the questionable design decisions, especially Samsung's deluded decision on where a fingerprint is appropriate to be. Maybe they had to do it this way to slap the wireless charging on it, but I'm not an engineer, I'm a consumer, and I don't like the position.

TLDR: No regrets on buying this, would have returned it by now otherwise.
