Of course, lowering the volume before going into the camera also disables the shutter sound.

For me what worked is to put Jrummys root browser into system using titanium backup. Then use the built in editor to modify system/csc/feature.xml. change camera sound from false to true. Done.

Ahh, didn't think of that one. Then again most here I assume have root. Nonetheless, always good to have options.

Ok, I'll make it even simpler. While IN the camera app press and hold the power button. Then press "mute". That's easier than digging into a settings within the phone app itself or using a separate app. There are times when I like the shutter sound, I never want it permanently off. This solution works well fo rme.
