Is it only for Nexus 6? Asking since it is filed under nexus or us it for all devices

Just curious and trying to learn here, why would anyone not want their phone to charge when plugged into USB, and how does doing so strain the battery?

The answer for that is very long. But here's the short version :

To keep the battery from staying at max capacity for a long duration.

Btw nowadays I used this to keep my phone from overheating though.

Especially useful when I connect it to computer like a whole day with the screen always on. Like this last few weeks when I'm developing Twitter chat for Pokémon go https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.bramantya.gochat

It use GPS all the time, screen on all the time and switching back and forth with pokémon Go. My adb catlog filled with overheats errors

So this app stops the charging so my phone not as hot.

About the compatibility. My target is to make this work for all devices but currently it doesn't

Hey awesome app. It works on my phone. Now i don't have to worry no more when tethering via usb. However, I do wish you can implement sort of auto enable or disable when battery reach at certain level. That would be even better.

I've searched the last two days for a solution to prevent charging while connected to a PC. Google is full with discussions, but all are from 2011 to 2014.

Great app, works on N6, Pixel XL, and Pixel 2 XL. As many know, this app is a lifesaver for DJI remotes. If you have a quadcopter and use the remote via OTG (e.g., Mavic Pro), the phone will drain the remote faster. This app solves the problem.

Here is info if you have Tasker or other scripting tool. You can set it up so when DJI Go runs, it will disable charging and when it exits, charging is re-enabled.
