Google fi seems to have the best deal right now if you're willing to port your number for 4 months (120 days). Still a measly $280 for the S22 Ultra trade in but an automatic $600 discount and the cheapest monthly plan is $20 a month. My rough math for the 512gb S23 Ultra comes out to $460 or so after taxes for me out the door and one can go back to their old service provider once the 4 months are up.

Definitely not as efficient as Samsung's trade in process but then again this year's carrier branded deals even with them are not the usual one time discounts but bill credits on top of being forced to choose one of their higher end monthly plans.

What particularly irks me is that you get a higher trade-in discount for a previous-generation iPhone 13 Pro Max than their own Galaxy S22 Ultra. Awesome way to reward brand loyalty.
This is actually the biggest **** you from Samsung yet.
That's why, if it still works, and if the S23 does not have anything breath taking comepared to the S22. Then why in the world would people want to get a new phone.
See for the Europeans like myself, it's a different case, we want to bin that ****ing Exynos after they basically fraudulently sold it to us. So for us it makes sense in some way to get the s23 ultra and be done with Samsung after that. For us it's better than to lose more money on our variant to swap it for the SD variant, it's rather better to get some "Value", which like mentioned above, is next to nothing, as samsung laughs in everyone's faces, and trade the steaming pile of **** and get a phone that'll actually be usable and be a phone you can daily drive for more than a year, and actually satisfy most if not all my/our needs to a good level.

So with Samsung direct, to get the best trade-in value on a good s22 ultra for the S23 ultra, you'll need to give up your phone and lock yourself to a 2 yr contract with a carrier. No thank you!
Par for the course. If they're selling you the device at a discount, they want to ensure they're going to get revenue from you for a while.

Yes, I understand that model if one is going thru the carrier. However, for at least the past 4 years, Samsung's trade-in process did not require the customer to subscribe to a carrier's contract and recieve credits thru termed billing payments in order to take advantage of a great trade-in value for their phone.

I think I'll wait and see what happens after they don't sell as many as they hoped. Even last year after the preorder they upped the trade in values once their lame 200 Samsung credit was over.

yeah I`m with GoogleFI and I preordered through there, 600.00 instant discount and free upgrade to 512gb storage for the same price as the 256gb just like what samsung doing on there webiste, all I have too do is keep it activate on GooglefF for 120 days, so it was $635.99 total for the 512gb green color.

Edit: also the samsung phones on google fi are the unlocked versions.
Not factory unlocked this is what the model number looks like for GoogleFi SM-S918UZKFGFI and this is a Samsung factory unlocked SM-S918UZKFXAA both Phantom Black 512GB. At the end of the day you can change the firmware to the one you prefer.

my S22 ultra bought directly from GoogleFi had the firmware SM-S908UZKFXAA/XAA in the phone info, I actually had to change it with SAMFW Tool to TMB, since it was taking forever to get Android 13 on my S22 ultra, then once was updated to Android 13 I changed it back to the original XAA/XAA CSC

I'm in the same wagon as OP Samsung only offers 375$ for my Galaxy S22+ while contract for 2-3 years they'd offer me 1,000$ on monthly credits not to mention that they'll have me pay their highest tier plans 80$+ a month. Nope just bought an unlocked S23 Ultra and I'll make up for the deals with selling my S22+ elsewhere for at least 500$ also with my low cost montly plan of only 40$ and able to change to lower tier plans if data is not used. Trade in offers are horrible at Samsung this year and I don't mix with contracts that force you to play by their rules...

Nice I've looked up the models it seems that carrier devices will have their own model this year BST, CCT, CHA, GFI, ATT, XAU, USC, VZW. The only exception being Visible by Verizon SM-S918UZKPXAA, SM-S918UZKVXAA this will be factory unlocked.

Very Strange how they decide the value. I also have a S22 Ultra and the trade in was $350. I typed in my S20 Ultra and was told trade in is now $800?? Where is the logic?

I suspect the lower trade in value is to combat inflationary increases with raising the phone retail price too high.

We upgraded because it not only looks like significant hardware improvements on a design we really like, but also because our trade in value will be even less next year, and if that is coupled with an inflationary price hike, it might price us out of upgrades.

With any luck we can rock the s23us and hope for them to finally get a handle on inflation in a few years.

Last year, when I traded in my Galaxy S21 Ultra to get an unlocked Galaxy S22 Ultra on Samsung.com, I got a $1,000 trade-in pre-order deal, which meant I only paid about $250 for my Galaxy Ultra S22. The S23 series was just announced, so I looked at the Samsung site to see what trade-in deals they had for an unlocked S23 Ultra. Pretty underwhelming. Only $500 for an S22 Ultra, which would bring the cost to about $700. Sure, you get 512 GB for the price of 256 GB, but I don't really care about that (256 GB is plenty for me). If I could upgrade to S23 Ultra for about $250 to $300, I'd pre-order it in a heartbeat, but not at $700.
    Bummer! (I know, first-world "problem"... :) ).

It's not a $500 instant discount. I'd get a $500 trade-in discount for my Galaxy S22 Ultra to get an unlocked Galaxy S23 Ultra straight from Samsung. That's way worse than last year, when I got $1,000 to trade in my Galaxy S21 Ultra to get the Galaxy S22 Ultra. I'd have to pay about $700 now to trade in my Galaxy S22 Ultra for the S23 Ultra. That's simply not worth it to me. Had it been $300 or so, like last year, I would have done it, but not $700. Ah well, would have been nice, but my S22 Ultra is still a great phone.

No kidding. This really pissed me off. I thought I had missed something. Now not so sure I will switch up.

First time in a long time that I am skipping a Sammy device. And to previous post, not everyone can afford to drop that much cash all at once.

it is really amusing for me to read about people complaining about things as op does, I have always paid the full price for all my devices, looking for those trade in, or signing never ending contracts looks to me like a pain the ass, better, you pay for your phone, walk out of the store, and that's it
What never-ending contracts? This isn't about contracts, simply the phone itself. I'm specifically talking about buying an unlocked phone straight from Samsung, not tied to any carrier. That's basically the online version of "pay for your phone, walk out the store, and that's it" like you do. Use it with any carrier. I, for one, prefer to pay as little as possible for a phone, so if I can get a great trade-in discount like last year, I'm all in.
I was simply comparing this year's S23U trade-in offer to last year's S22U, and it's way worse than last year. Last year, I got way more for my phone as a trade-in than I would ever be able to get selling it on Craig's List or OfferUp. That's definitely not the case this year. I'll hang on to my S22 Ultra longer, which is totally fine with me.
