Seriously... When your bootloader is LOCKED you CAN NOT flash a CUSTOM kernel!!

Flashing anything else then stock kernels and stock based ROM's on a BOOTLOADER LOCKED DEVICE will result in a SOFT-BRICK. So the answer to your problem is simple: unlock your bootloader or simply DON'T flash a CUSTOM kernel...

Phone keeps restarting

This might be the wrong thread to post but I couldn't find a more appropriate one to post my problem :)

My phone(C6603) boots up proper but then restarts on its own(on the .434 stock firmware)
I also get IMEI & Baseband as "unknown"
This started happening while the phone was working perfectly. The exact moment it happened was when I was trying to turn on the wi-fi.This was 3 days after a firmware upgrade to .423
My phone was rooted & had CWM recovery installed on .423
I have since flashed stock firmware(Wiped everything) & downgraded it to .434 hoping to reset things back to normal.
Boots up like normal but shows x on the Signal Bars. And then restarts again after 2-3 minutes.
Any ideas?

P.S. My phone is 2nd hand & its not under warranty.Went to an authorized Sony Service center. They said they couldn't do anything about it, except for replacement which is possible only under warranty.

Well, it's the wrong thread indeed... but I do have some tips:

Take out your SIM card and check if it changes _anything_ in the behavior. If it doesn't, you will need to clean the contacts of either your phone (that can be a problem, i know) or your SIM card or test your phone with the SIM from someone else.

While on your phone after a fresh boot: open the dialer app and type *#*#7378423#*#* (the digits spell the word 'service') to open the service menu, then go to 'Service Info' and open 'Configuration'. There the IMEI should be visible, if it's missing then it might be time to get a new phone if the cleaning of the (phone or SIM) contacts did not help.

If thats the case: contact @DevShaft because he would like you to test something with the phone's TA partition. IF that works, it might mean we owe you eternal gratitude as a community and YOU might be able to fix your IMEI issue :good: The flipside of this proposition is that it might destroy your phone's TA partition, which also means you will need to get a new phone :p

--EDIT--

How can a phone which got released this year be out of factory warranty by the way? The service center should fix your phone even without receipt simply because it CAN NOT be older then 12 MONTHS!

Thank you for the reply :)
Before writing this post,I had done an extensive search for problems related to mine.Sadly'I couldn't find a single solution that would work for me.
The things I have tried:
  • Downgrade to earlier stock firmwares.
  • Restore the backup of TA partition I had made before the problem started.
  • SUS,EMMA,PC companion,Flashtool.

The Service Menu>Configuration shows IMEI: unknown, Baseband:unknown (all things unknown except Bootloader unlcking allowed:Yes)
About the warranty,I bought the phone 2nd hand without the papers(stupid, I know). But I was hoping the Sony Service Center guys would be able to repair & charge me for the hardware replacements. But they just refused saying they could only do handset replacements if it was hardware failure & sadly enough I didn't have the necessary papers.Surprisingly, they were not even sure if it was a hardware failure for sure & the only "tools" I saw on their workstation was a couple of laptops with EMMA tool open :D

I'm open to testing,if it could mean a "breakthrough" with this kind of problem.I have seen a few posts/users who have a similar problem & haven't found a solution as yet.It would be nice to be able to help out those suffering from the same issues.

Just a curious question: what tool did you use to create the backup of your TA with and what version was that?

Which FTF did you use and what type of Z do you have exactly? C6606/6603/6602?

If I may suggest: try flashing the CORRECT FTF from the flashtool website: http://www.flashtool.net/firmwares.html
I have a C6603.I have used C6603_10.1.A.1.434_UK unbranded since my customization no.is CDF:1270-7689 R5B which is UK customization.
I also have a .423 & .244 of the same region. But i cannot access the app drawer or settings on firmwares above .434

Ok, try flashing a non-UK (HK or ES versions are just fine) version, just for the hell of it... it seems your FTF did not contain a (correct) modem firmware from the sound of your problems...

I was thinking on the same lines & I tried flashing C6603_Unbranded_10.1.A.1.434 SG(Singapore). But it didn't help me with the Network & wi-fi issue.
I can, however, try flashing firmwares from other regions also.
I'm not sure if it means anything but is it possible that there are some areas in the memory which might be "corrupted" or not properly written into when flashing ROMs/ firmwares.
Also the device behaves differently with different firmwares. For instance,I cannot access the app drawer, settings etc on firmwares above .434.On .423 & .244 the lockscreen wallpaper is also missing.Whereas its there on .434.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:
So last night I got bored and decided to flash a custom ROM.I unlocked the bootloader and flashed PAC ROM.
When it booted up,I was happy to see that the wi-fi was working again. But still I couldn't get network signal. And both "Equipment ID" & Baseband were unknown.
However within 5 minutes of fiddling around with the new ROM,the phone restarted again like before.
I'm now almost convinced this is a hardware failure.Because another guy with a similar problem(read:IMEI & Baseband=unknown & phone restarting on its own) used PAC Rom & his phone did not restart anymore & his wifi worked too.Although he still could not get network signal.
Could be the battery and/or mainboard failure?Any which way my device looks F*&KED!! :D

Bricked Xperia ZL!

Hello! I tried to reset my Xperia ZL downloading a new stock rom, but I only found generic ROM. I used the Flashtool, but when the flahs progress finish, I tried to power on the smartphone, but only the SONY logo appears and the phone shut down again. What more I need to do? I tried with the PC Compation to, to repair the phone, nut the same happens.
With the USU the progress fail in the end.

Update: Now, I repaired the cellphone with the PC Company, but when I try to turn it on, the Sony logo appears for only 1 second and the phone turn of. When I put him at the charger, The phone stay trying to turn on, the red led stay on and the sony logo appears and turn off again.

I'm continuing @thiagoeidi's reply because i'm the owner of this specific ZL xD
So...after a few tries, now with the update I get from PC Companion, I got the latest one. Not sure which one it is. I'll post it here later. and with BL Unlocked, without the charger, it still loops with sony logo and stuff and with the charger I can now turn it on. Although, if I take the charger off, after 2 seconds it shut down instantly. According to this thread, it looks like the bootloop solution might solve my problem, but I have one question to be answered.
By saying "...after pressing Vol-up + Power Button, right after the screen goes black, you press Vol-Down + Power Button..." How exactly should I know when the underlined happens if my ZL doesn't boot? Or, when I press Vol-Up + Power Button, the screen turns on?
(I'll try this one later, when I get home xD I'm not with the ZL in my hands)

Thank you for the attention. :D

I can make it a bit easier for you:

Make sure you have disconnected the USB cable.

Open the SIM cover, you will see the reset button there... hold if for a while until your phone shuts down completely with 3 vibrations (i have no way of verifying this actually works, so if someone can correct me if i'm wrong here!).

Now while holding either VOL-UP (fastboot) or VOL-DOWN (flashmode) connect your phone to the PC with a waiting FLASHTOOL to flash your phone, it will power up but will NOT show a screen, it will either show a green (flashmode) led or a blue (fastboot) led and your PC should let you know a device was connected and flashtool should start it's work.

Make sure you have the flashtool drivers installed.

I tried using SUS but I keep up with the same problem...While the charger is plugged in, I can use the phone normally. But when I unplug it, after approx. 10 seconds it shut down instantly...Now this is starting looks like a battery problem...Don't know if the device itself is not recognizing it...

Well... best is to take it to a service center and have them check it.

Eeyup...Although I didn't wanted to...it's too complicated to send my phone to a service center since there aren't any in my town and the closest one would have to be sent by mail. And also, it will take tooo muuuuuuuuch time :silly:
