Getting root became progressively harder, I am here to exclaim. That BAT 4 'method', with general, non-specific, clearly mispelled instructions, with the ambiguous vague idea; is the only one that worked for me.
For some reason, flashing the older Kernel with Odin, just STOPPED the process cold, every single try. I always try three times, to eliminate my own human errors.
So I experimented with KingRoot. Don't play too much with that. You'll end up starting from scratch again. I can Odin back to stock with my eyes closed now, I've screwed up that many times! KingRoot is full of busy things that are happy to erase root code if needed! Pick a process and delete it! WOOHOO! Don't go there with KingRoot. It didn't go well for me, is why I don't recommend it.
As soon as KingRoot announces that you have root? Get out as efficiently as you can! And that won't happen, unless you have a paid Google Play Store set up, already charged the four bucks to your credit card, for SuperSU Pro, able to be downloaded on a fresh install immediately after getting the phone up to speed.
If not, like my first few tries without the paid app, KingRoot starts taking over your device.
So getting root was extremely difficult; and unlocking the bootloader, was a walk in the park, by comparison. I am here reading this, because after I was at long last, I am able to use CyanogenMod...
...and lo and behold, CyanogenMod has closed it's doors and turned off the lights. So I'm seeing some promising stuff here....
I'm going to flash this ROM. I'll report back about it soon.
I am smart enough not to panic and pull the battery, even though it's taking a long time. It's not my daily driver. I can let it soak all night! It's hung up on the splash screen.

It's because I was running Lollipop and this is marshmallow huh? That's why it's hung up huh?

Good thing I have a nandroid to flash back to Custom instead of having to start over again. Or do I? This is the first time I'm going to try using that image I backed up using TWRP 2.7

wow it got hot! I pulled the battery. I am letting it cool off. Next line I type will be describing the process of restoring my TWRP backup...
