When switching ROMs, it is better to wipe everything except internal storage before installing the new ROM. And ofcourse, backup.

If you're only looking to update the firmware/modem, I've never had issues just flashing in TWRP with no wipes. Maybe someone has a different experience?

I tested it and my phone had no issues with encryption. My phone was already encrypted before I flashed the rom.

I am on OB39 now. My phone remains encrypted right from OB34 till now without any issues.

Strange, apparently the firmware folder was removed.
