LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11 (R), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

I'm just wondering if I can just upgrade to this by just flashing the zip file with TWRP? Because the steps on how to upgrade from the official guide is only for using adb sideload.

Yes to upgrade from 17.1 to 18.1, just flash the 18.1 zip, then the Android 11 GApps zip and then other zips (Magisk etc.) in TWRP. No wiping or deleting required. I did it this way

Have you tried to flash the 22.0 magisk.apk as a zip file, (rename it to .zip), it worked for me.
I only tried doing that after it's already doing the bootloops.
First thing I tried was the one stated in the Patching Images instructions. I used the TWRP 3.4 for the Patch a File part which is probably the reason why it failed then I flashed that patched TWRP through fastboot then it started doing the bootloops.

Next time, I'll do that instead,

I think ,the boot.img of the rom is the one to be patched. That worked for me in lineage 17.1.
I think the patching boot image is the good choice, because we can keep using the lineage recovery. I like it because it's easy to update the rom.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will move to 19.1.

Guys I have seen a lot of guys are discussing about magisk. Actually magisk is not a important thing to make the rom to boot. Just flash lineage 18.1 zip and a11 gapps to upgrade from lineage 17.1.

If you really want magisk, flash it after first boot (best case).
and you can use latest magisk 22.0 . It works well.

and for update bootloops, You guys may be used someother recoveries which is not recommended. Follow the steps as per lineage wiki . (may be my twrp works well but I don't even recommend. just follow as per lineage wiki if you are a normal user)

Hey thank you for your patience. It will take sometime for me. Really busy these days + lack of resources (like internet connection, server). Thank you for your understanding.

    Fix SafetyNet without magisk modules.

    Flash this and reboot.

    New Update.

Now you do not need to reflash it after every ota update that rom receives, just flash it only once
