Leave well enough alone if device is stable and you can 'live' with the brightness bug. There are no appreciable performance gains to be had with a newer ROM but plenty of opportunity to fall off the rails during the unlock/upgrade procedure. Choose your poison wisely.

upgrade or not upgrade?

hi all,
I have two old Fire 2015 (KFFOWI) where I flashed CyanOgen several years ago now (thanks to all you amazing people on this forum handholding noobs like me), it still works ok as i use them for one app only in a smart home setting, although it can be quite sluggish and I was wondering if installing a more recent version might help with that perhaps. I'm also worried that I'm missing on 4 years of security patches.

Been reading for an hour or so but still unsure as to what I should do:
- install this Nexus ROM (sounds like it's suitable for old/slow devices)
- install a new version of Lineage (I believe it should be similar to CM just more recent)
- just leave it alone altogether

Yup

As for security patches what's your exposure? Probably nil. Another reason to leave well enough alone.

    Progress for Next version

    - I'm working on an update which should fix up the previous borked release.
    - This ROM relies on gapps been included to work correctly so will not be releasing without it
    - I've fixed a bug in one of the last security updates I back-ported. Google services using the latest gapps now seems stable.
    - I wanted to check over a few more things and do some testing before release.
    - Hopefully should be done within the next couple of days.
