Flash Ufirm, then eng boot for ufirm, then root. I used "root with fixes." Then flash the standard ufirm boot. Then you get the best possible stable root. It was from another thread about a bootloader, Verizon forum I think. Full root, no overheating and damn near no lag. Enjoy.

New rookie

Hello and good afternoon. Rookie here. I have a SM-G935V (hero2qltevzn) currently loaded with Android 7.0, build #NRD90M G935VVRU 4BQA4. I have no idea if the boot loader is locked or not, I assume it is.

Before the upgrade to 7.0 (quite a while ago) I used an app called FoxFi for my hotspot with my data plan. When Verizon updated to 7.0, I lost FoxFi. I'd like to get it back. I assume rooting the phone will allow FoxFi to again work with my data plan. If not, I'd like to get back to 6.x to re-enable FoxFi.

I normally use an iMac desktop. I also have an old XP machine and Parallels on the Mac with an XP installation. I'm having some difficulty getting either Parallels XP or stand alone XP machine to access "secure" internet sites. I may be able to use a flash drive to get files over to the XP machine from the iMac.

I've had some success getting the iMac to connect using a JOdin3 software, but it's not really working for rooting (like I said, I'm a rookie with zero experience on Odin.

First, is it right that root will enable FoxFi to use my existing data plan, and second, do I start with the postings on page 1. Thank you guys for any help and your patience with a rookie.

Hi Mike. Never used foxfi. All I can say is that if an app requires root and you had it working previously on a phone without root.... Then rooting won't help. I'll check further into this when i have time and let you know.

Or u can use this app.

Hi and good morning. Thank you for the reply.

FoxFi allowed use of my existing data plan (which is an old unlimited plan) to hot spot without rooting, and no extra charges for Verizon's hot spot feature.

I suspect FoxFi is setting some code first (root?), because after launching and enabling FoxFi, I have to go into Verizon's hot spot app, enable it, then I'm good to go. This worked fine under MM. After the Nougat install, the feature is disabled and Verizon says "you need to subscribe to use this feature".

The (implied) assumption is that rooting is an alternative to using FoxFi (or any other app) for hot spotting, without Verizon's extra charges.

I will investigate if NetShare does this . If it does, then my issued would be solved. If not, I'm going to continue to try to either get back to MM (if that's possible) or root. I will report back on NetShare.

Thank you again to everyone for helping a rookie out.

So I took a look at NetShare. I could not get it to work, but that could have been for a number of reasons.

I did however find an update to the PDAnet application (which for all intents and purposes is FoxFi). I installed the update and voila, FoxFi once again does it's magic, albeit a bit more cumbersome.

I'd still like to get this phone rooted, so I'll continue with the project even though my main motivation was to get FoxFi working again.

Thank you to everyone for sharing their expertise and time.
Best regards,
Mike K.

My s7 edge is now fully rooted with Ufirmware and I reflashed the stock BL as Arse18 suggested. I am very happy with the performance of the phone while rooted! It is super snappy! I did a benchmark test before I obtained root on this device. I will post these scores along with the newly rooted scores soon for comparison after I install all my apps on the phone.

The only issue that I have is loss of the fingerprint sensor. When using JKRuse's root.bat, I chose to use the finger print fix when obtaining root through the program. However, the fingerprint sensor does not work now.

Can somebody direct me to a fix for the finger print sensor? In the meantime, I will go back and read through the entire thread to see if I can fix the issue myself.

I'm response to my own question, the fingerprint sensor DOES work fine while rooted. I rerooted my phone and this time correctly chose to use the fingerprint fix. I had chosen the option not to install the fingerprint fix the first time by accident.

All thanks goes to jkruse for his ingenious and skill behind the keyboard!

Ok here is a way to flash the needed verizon files to the system and remover tmobile files and return the phone to stock official status. Wificalling will work Visual Voicemail Volte etc and you will not have to root your phone and once the process is done you will be using the Stock Official Boot.img not the Eng Boot.img
    Download Fix_WifiCalling_ADB.zip unzip it
If you dont have the verizon firmware then download this G935TUVU4BQB1_Nougat_VZW_G935V.zip
This process is going to wipe your phone so lets start fresh
Reboot to recovery wipe data reboot back to bootloader
In odin flash BL_G935TUVU4BQB1_CL10376601_QB12449118_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 In BL slot
    AP_G935TUVU4BQB1_CL10376601_QB12449118_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.tar.md5 In AP slot
    CP_G935TUVU4BQB1_CL10376601_QB12449118_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 in CP Slot
    Leave CSC slot Blank
Go through setup don't add any accounts your going to wipe again when finished reboot back to bootloader
In odin Flash Engineering Boot.img from the OP in AP slot
When phone reboots and computer reconnects to phone
In Fix_WifiCalling_ADB folder click the Fix_WifiCalling.bat
When done click press to continue the phone will reboot back to download mode
In odin CSC_VZW_G935VVZW4API3_CL8875708_QB11198937_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 in CSS slot
    G935TUVU4BQB1_Boot_Recovery_Image.tar.md5 In AP slot
Phone will reboot to recovery and fail
    In Recovery click Mount System
    Wipe data
    Reboot
Go through setup and you should have Official Status phone with verizon apps installed

Install View attachment RomControl.apk Open Advanced Calling make sure HD video calling is turned on and activate wifi calling
Then open rom control in the phone settings tab and access IMS settings and turn on VOLTE as explained in the tmobile firmware on verizon phone thread

If you want Tmobile style settings and call recording added to phone then download this View attachment others.zip unzip it and place the others.xml in the Fix_WifiCalling_ADB folder and place inside the push_system/csc folder and replace the other.xml in that folder with this one before you run the Fix_WifiCalling.bat

    View attachment 4063719View attachment 4063720View attachment 4063721View attachment 4063722View attachment 4063726View attachment 4063727View attachment 4063728

Notice I added multi user and call recording you can see these in the pics and also notice a wifi call made and visual voice mail
