Flash Ufirm, then eng boot for ufirm, then root. I used "root with fixes." Then flash the standard ufirm boot. Then you get the best possible stable root. It was from another thread about a bootloader, Verizon forum I think. Full root, no overheating and damn near no lag. Enjoy.

Hello and good afternoon. Rookie here. I have a SM-G935V (hero2qltevzn) currently loaded with Android 7.0, build #NRD90M G935VVRU 4BQA4. I have no idea if the boot loader is locked or not, I assume it is.

Before the upgrade to 7.0 (quite a while ago) I used an app called FoxFi for my hotspot with my data plan. When Verizon updated to 7.0, I lost FoxFi. I'd like to get it back. I assume rooting the phone will allow FoxFi to again work with my data plan. If not, I'd like to get back to 6.x to re-enable FoxFi.

I normally use an iMac desktop. I also have an old XP machine and Parallels on the Mac with an XP installation. I'm having some difficulty getting either Parallels XP or stand alone XP machine to access "secure" internet sites. I may be able to use a flash drive to get files over to the XP machine from the iMac.

I've had some success getting the iMac to connect using a JOdin3 software, but it's not really working for rooting (like I said, I'm a rookie with zero experience on Odin.

First, is it right that root will enable FoxFi to use my existing data plan, and second, do I start with the postings on page 1. Thank you guys for any help and your patience with a rookie.

Hi Mike. Never used foxfi. All I can say is that if an app requires root and you had it working previously on a phone without root.... Then rooting won't help. I'll check further into this when i have time and let you know.

Hi and good morning. Thank you for the reply.

FoxFi allowed use of my existing data plan (which is an old unlimited plan) to hot spot without rooting, and no extra charges for Verizon's hot spot feature.

I suspect FoxFi is setting some code first (root?), because after launching and enabling FoxFi, I have to go into Verizon's hot spot app, enable it, then I'm good to go. This worked fine under MM. After the Nougat install, the feature is disabled and Verizon says "you need to subscribe to use this feature".

The (implied) assumption is that rooting is an alternative to using FoxFi (or any other app) for hot spotting, without Verizon's extra charges.

I will investigate if NetShare does this . If it does, then my issued would be solved. If not, I'm going to continue to try to either get back to MM (if that's possible) or root. I will report back on NetShare.

So I took a look at NetShare. I could not get it to work, but that could have been for a number of reasons.

I did however find an update to the PDAnet application (which for all intents and purposes is FoxFi). I installed the update and voila, FoxFi once again does it's magic, albeit a bit more cumbersome.

I'd still like to get this phone rooted, so I'll continue with the project even though my main motivation was to get FoxFi working again.

My s7 edge is now fully rooted with Ufirmware and I reflashed the stock BL as Arse18 suggested. I am very happy with the performance of the phone while rooted! It is super snappy! I did a benchmark test before I obtained root on this device. I will post these scores along with the newly rooted scores soon for comparison after I install all my apps on the phone.

The only issue that I have is loss of the fingerprint sensor. When using JKRuse's root.bat, I chose to use the finger print fix when obtaining root through the program. However, the fingerprint sensor does not work now.

Can somebody direct me to a fix for the finger print sensor? In the meantime, I will go back and read through the entire thread to see if I can fix the issue myself.

P.S. I have been tweaking CPU governor's to my liking with Kernal Adiutor. If anyone wants to conserve batter life with Kernal Adiutor, I recommend the following video form YouTube.

I'm response to my own question, the fingerprint sensor DOES work fine while rooted. I rerooted my phone and this time correctly chose to use the fingerprint fix. I had chosen the option not to install the fingerprint fix the first time by accident.
