I have always been a custom ROM user. I did flash the N release just to get a feel of Nougat, but I am back on OrionOS.

N based custom Roms are not even booting as of now. I am referring to cm14. Even if it boots, there needs a lot to be done to get it to be a DD. So don't expect one anytime soon.

There are many users including moto staff saying that you will get off the official N path if you flash the soak test. I am not one who believes that. There is also talk that if you downgrade N to M, you will brick your device permanently if you flash the official N release when it hits. I don't believe that either.

If you want stability + few customizations, stay with stock. If you are willing to overlook the odd issue, nothing better than custom Roms.

Thanks a lot for such a thorough reply. That took care of just about every possible doubt I've had regarding upgrading.

Hi there, I updated to the 10/27 vanir build last night (dirty flash over the 10/23 version). All seemed great until I got a "Camera Busy" error message when I needed to take a picture... The message said the camera couldn't start and suggested a reboot (which didn't help).

Anyone else? I'm on an xt1644. Let me know if this is just me and I'll grab a logcat. Thanks!

Try flashing the attached zip file and see if it fixes the issue.

Thanks! I flashed it and saw no change. Here's the screenshot from the native camera:

Here's the moto camera that I usually use:

I'll reboot and grab a fresh logcat...

Sorry for the delay - here's the logcat I promised (this was taken after flashing your supplemental .zip). Thanks!

It seems that all of the cm-based ROMs I've tried on this device, including this Vanir build, have a low-volume issue from the 3.5mm audio jack. The stock ROM is OK. Has there been discussion on this?

Hi
This has been asked before but i cannot find a definative answer , why do 100% of AOSP roms including this one change the device wifi MAC address, i'm a little concerned as to why it does this.

This is a known cm/aosp issue that effects many other devices. A simple Google search will reveal that. Report the issue to the cm bug tracker, though I doubt it would have any effect as a lot of users have reported the issue earlier.

Moto G4 and G4 plus are now officially supported by vanir. This thread is of no use now.

Information for Reliance Jio Users on how to activate VoLTE. Follow instructions to the T. Thank you ==vj== for the instructions.
    • Make sure you are on the latest baseband M8952_70009.08.03.48R.
    • Jio SIM should be in slot1.
    • Complete the setup wizard normally after flashing ROM & GAPPS ( flash arm-6-pico if using opengapps ).
    • On CM and Vanir, APN is set to jionet by default. If its not, goto Settings->SIM Cards->SIM1 Settings->Access Point Names and change as follows. Name=jionet, APN=jionet, APN Type=default, APN Protocol=IPv4/IPv6. Click here for screenshots.
    • Goto "SIM CARD" settings and select calling sim as JIO. This can also be done during setup.
    • Select sim1 settings (JIO) & toggle enhanced LTE option enabled. This is required to activate the volte option in dialer. If enhanced VoLTE option doesn't show up, goto APN settings and select Bearer as LTE alone. Then manually select Jio4g from mobile networks. That should enable enhanced LTE option for sure.

    Code:
    /*
     * Your warranty is now void.
     *
     * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
     * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
     * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
     * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
     *

Some important information before you flash.

    1. If you are on N soak ROM, you need to flash back M stock rom before you flash OrionOS. This is needed to fix fingerprint. If you don't do this, fp will not work.\
    2. ROM comes with ElementalX kernel built from source. You only need the app to configure it.

You can download it from here. Test it out and let me know if it warrants a separate thread. Updates will be rare as they have moved on to N bringup. Just put it out to test substratum.
