I've used a number of different camera apps over the past few months now, and I've had very mixed results. I'm not going to list them all, or keep an indefinite list. I'll just update based on what other people use, and recent builds that work or don't work well for this phone.

The camera quality can actually be really good, considering it wasn't even really a selling point during the campaign. They just need better software to maximize the capabilities of it.

Currently my daily use camera app is:

Everything seems to work very well on this build. I have everything set to default except a few Advanced settings. I enabled 'HDR+ Enhanced for Portrait', 'Disable zoom in portrait mode', and 'Auto-exposure in the Portrait mode'.

Previously I was using:
  • GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8Final-Test - by @Arnova8G2

That was previously working very well for me, but when I changed over to the next build (after final test), the rear camera was broken. Front-facing cam was fine, but I just had a black screen for the rear camera. So instead of changing back to the 'Final-Test' version, I decided to try out the one I have listed as my current cam.

Please feel free to share what you use, your settings, and you thoughts on the different apps. Whether it's a Google Cam mod, or if it's something from the Play Store. I honestly haven't tried any from the Play Store on this yet. I've only used stock, and the Google Cam ports.
(Be sure to share links and/or credit if it's not your own cam)

Cameras I've had issues with:
  • GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8 (Rear camera was just a black screen)

If you aren't aware of it, this is a site with a list of all the Google Cam mods:

As far as video is concerned though, Google Cam mods seem to have difficulty while focusing when switching quickly between differing levels of light.

The stock camera appears to handle video better, but is easily beat out in taking pictures.

And if i want to use Google camera. Need root smartphone or not. Plz tell me
I suppose yes because I have tried to install gcam to my phone also unfortunately force close ,need root to enable API 2 to work and root need unlocked bootloader but in international ROM you can't unlocked bootloader so you have to do it in Chinese rom which I don't like so the conclusion is gcam=root=unlocked bootloader=Chinese Rom!
If I'm wrong please someone correct me because I also want gcam in international ROM!

I tried both of the versions you listed in your post along with multiple others and cannot find a gcam port that will even attempt to open beyond instantly gettin an error saying it crashed as soon as I tap on it.
