LOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
ok guys, just that you know: i think im turning insane over here HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
wanna know why? ok, ill tell you why: flashing the stock oeminfo for AL10 did NOT result in a locked bootloader.... HOWEVER!
I managed to get rid of that annoying orange message at boot saying that your phone is insecure!!!! with the bootloader still unlocked! *rofl*
NOW of all times, after I already got a new phone and ready to sell off my mate 8 did I find this
ok, so anyways, i figured i should share this because im sure lots of you guys would be interested in this.
Prerequisites and things to know beforehand:
- make sure your bootloader is already unlocked when you start off with these steps!
- this procedure involves a factory reset with data partition format, so
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR IMPORTANT DATA BEFORE YOU DO THIS!
so, without further ado, starting off with a stock rom (B592 on AL10 in my case), do the following:
- fastboot flash the latest twrp you can get your hands on (i used the one by openkirin, version 3.1.1.0, but i actually saw that brother
@ChinHon actually provides an OREO based TWRP for mate 8 now, whats up with that?!)
- boot into twrp and flash the latest stable SuperSu zip (2.82) to get root access
- now try to get your hands on the correct oeminfo file! unfortunately, all links ive found here in the forum were dead, BUT: head over to the SRK Tool thread (Link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/tool-srk-tool-huawei-t3369797) download that nifty tool by brother
@somboons, unzip it and look into the folder named "oeminfo_mate8", voila: there you go

available for China (AL10), Asia (L29C636), Europe (L29C432), Middle East & Africa (L29C185) and theres another one called "normal", no idea what that is for, maybe the global version (L29-C900)? anyways, unzip the oeminfo zip and youll have the oeminfo file ready (note: it does NOT have a file ending!)
- get yourself a file explorer with proper root capabilities and the ability to unhide hidden files, i myself use es file explorer pro, and replace the oeminfo file you just downloaded (make sure its the proper one for your model) with the original located here:
/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/oeminfo
A reboot will now tell you that your data partition is corrupted, so you will have to use erecovery to download the latest stock firmware and recovery (involving a complete reset and wipe of your data partition, so be sure to make a backup of your files first!). this then leads to a freshly installed stock rom with an unlocked bootloader and NO orange message during boot
in any case, ill leave it like that for now, ive stressed enough over relocking my BL
if any of you guys wants to open up a new thread for this finding for better visibility and maybe properly rewrite the procedure including links, be my guest
ill be uploading a video proof on my mega account shortly, stay tuned
